This is a good point! I have personally decided to save some of the all-time greatest games until I am better at text adventures and can enjoy them with fewer hints.

Advice fror people trying to get into text adventures: do not start with infocom games. Start with something like Glowgrass, Violet, The Dreamhold, Plundered Hearts*, or Lost Pig. They'pe friendlier to the player. I get that the interf

I read it all. I don't expect anyone to have the definitive answer. I'm aware I'm only picking up wild speculation.

Wait whose money do you think is in the bank? Banks are funded by depositors' money and they absolutely play fast and loose with it when not regulated.

When I saw a zip file for a Windows application I was worried it would do that Windows thing and unzip its contents not in subdirectory. I was pleasantly surprised it did not! Unfortunately, when I start the exe file in DOSBox Staging it on

Author here. I did not expect this to show up on HN already. I took a few hours to make something I’ve long wanted to make: a very tiny “ATC simulator”. It’s different from all the others in that airplanes cannot be vectored, i.e. one canno

I think this is one of the cases where Nix would be easier. To try it out without polluting your global namespace, nix run nixpkgs#mc.

The "orthodox" comes from a specific type of GUI, namely one that is driven by commands under the hood. UI elements are merely used to trigger commands that have the actual effect, and these commands could just as well be executed

You might not even need fancy techniques to have UX similar to a React app. When the page load is fast enough, browsers hide that it happened. This means you can afford to do everything in the backend and just send plain HTML over to the us

The problem in this case is not the HTTPS connection, but the fact that browsers, when importing ES6 modules, import all their transitive dependencies one by one. This means they can make a bazillion requests under the hood when importing j
