I've used NAnt to build/deploy happily for years. I suppose it depends on each project or application's particular context. I will say this: If there's some kind of requirement where Dev1 will overwrite Dev2's changes on the target server

I use Cropper ( http://cropper.codeplex.com/ ). Works great, and both Notes and Outlook take the Ctrl+V just fine. Cropper can also be used to intercept PtrnScrn commands.

You search for "Comic Sans", the results display in the Comic Sans font. Sounds less funny when you explain it :)

Business as usual in Washington. Anyone really surprised? Every time it looks like something good will come out of there, the politicians manage to screw it up with amazing precision and panache.

I guess it's possible I might be missing something here, but I can't for the life of me understand how this is so complicated and expensive. Is there a technical explanation somewhere? Are they adapting a non-adaptable proprietary CMS or so

The database in this case has to share some of the blame. For years MySQL did not support parametrized queries or stored procedures (or did not promote them), and many of the people coding against it consistently claimed that they didn't

Hardly surprising, but it's an interesting situation. The only company in the world that wants and needs Windows XP to disappear is Microsoft; for everyone else XP is an enormously bountiful source of users and revenue. It would be suicidal

I think in our lizard brains we prefer to have an imaginary measure of control over how we go. So we'd rather have a 20-foot wall of water bearing down on us at 80mph than to be exposed to invisible radiation. We imagine that we have a ch

There are vast numbers of young people out there that either don't have $5 or have no way to pay for something online even if they had the money. The potential pool of software developers isn't (and shouldn't be) limited to the US and Europ

I think it might be too much for Microsoft to say "you have to get rid of this browser" and then "but you have to upgrade your operating system". For the same reason they're not going to promote FF or Chrome, since those run on XP just fine

There are Java projects that use Oracle as the back end. Since Java is Free Software (technically at least) and Oracle is not, would you consider that to be a failure for Free Software? Do you use a binary blob NVidia driver on your Linux c

I remember being at the MS Redmond campus for an MVP summit shortly before .NET was released (ca. 2000). Some of the devs in the VB.Net team would amble in to participate in discussions and whatnot (it was very informal). Most of them had l
