Obviously the "Oranges: the new apples?" title is off-base; k8s is fundamentally a control loop engine, Wasm is a runtime. What I want to know is, is there anything out there like kubernetes but stripped down to just the control l

   by kortex 5y ago

Yeah, I'm not seeing it, either. Kubernetes' scope is right in the name: control loops. K8s is basically a super powerful IFTTT engine: it looks at state, looks at spec, and figures out how to jigger the system until state matches

No, no, and no. The only one remotely close in scope is LLVM-IR, and even then scope is pretty significantly different. LLVM-IR is a general purpose IR for native compilation. Wasm is deliberately small in scope and designed for sandboxing.

I'm fine with alcohol being the high water mark. We can fairly objectively rank the health and societal harms of various drugs. Hard to quantify, but straightforward to build an ordinal list. Caffeine, weed, basically all psychedelics,

Nit: that study is cigarettes. There is more to tobacco than nicotine, such as harmala alkaloids and miscellaneous MAOIs. Either way, that's super interesting.

I make less errors and find errors more readily with ligatures on. The instant I saw them on my coworker's machine, I had installed Fira and enabled ligatures in Jetbrains. I have ADHD and I'm a highly visual person. I love ligatu

   > Is this any easier to remember than normal JSON? Yeah, actually it is. It's immediately intuitive to me. It makes string interpolation way easier. Quick, how do you do -d {object} and pass in environment variables with correct str

It's definitely not a single parameter. I've been down this rabbit hole a bunch. There's actually 5 main subtypes of the dopamine receptor. They express in different concentrations in different brain regions, and have differe

I think these "overdriven goals" might be the result of leaky abstraction. We are basically seeing an implementation detail come to light. As TFA points out, there is really just one reward-taxis algorithm. Everything drive-relate

Emergent just means a more complex behavior (foxes tending to flee towards interactivity-dense areas) resulting from a simpler rule (while fox.spooked, maintain 100 triangles of distance away). Flocking is an emergent behavior that is basic

Yeah, that would be something we'd want to do long-scale simulation tests of before setting sail. Build a simulated spaceship, probably in orbit for maximum accuracy, and see how everything holds up. Tbh I'd be more concerned abou

Sure, but like, you don't have to break code on .Y changes. Changing semantics of a query operator is something worth saving for a "big major" update, if you change it all. Some breaking changes are really obvious and easy
