Thank you for explaining that you only used it for one day to add context. It is a different experience that takes a little time to understand. I do not remember how long it took me to get familiar with Twitter as it was long ago, but I am

When framed as extremes in a false dichotomy, centralization seems the better option. In the reality of decentralized social media servers, thousands of community servers of various sizes rather than individuals make up most of the nodes an

The pace at which this happens is determined by the barriers and limits of the context. This is why centralists want to have big barriers such as proprietary technology and government backing by laws and other force that protects their mono

How does it get cancelled out? Take this example: Company A has $1M revenue from creating services or products. Then my company B invoices company A for $250K. GDP is $1.25M. I do not report who I billed to the government who compiles GDP.

The gig economy boosts GDP. If I work as an employee, I am just an expense to a company. If I setup an S corporation and contract my services to that same company, I am now growing the services sector and increasing GDP. I am still doing th

It is not just Canada. The US and other countries justify their debt levels by this and it is used by bond traders to measure health of bonds issued. Military spending as percentage of GDP is also cited. So if military spending and borrowin

I am referring explicitly to using Mastodon instances and not about other platforms or software. I run Mastodon and other instances and know what is collected and what trackers are enabled from server which is very little. Yes some informat

I suppose I have been lucky in location or keep some kind of good balance. Chemical warfare would be my last resort if I was ever faced with it.

If you don't trust the administrator of your instance not to sell you out to the government, you simply use an anonymous email address at sign up and use a VPN or TOR to access the server. It is as simple as that since Mastodon is desi

It seems that Mastodon or other fediverse projects could be quite popular in places like this. With minimal effort, it is easy to be anonymous in the fediverse. Many independent federated instances also makes it censorship resistant.

Your skepticism is warranted. Of course the negative affects of these chemicals is down played by those who sell them. Many leech into ecosystems, our homes, and our bodies causing obvious and latent issues. I personally love insects and pl

I think it depends on how invested people already are and the sunk cost fallacy effect that will keep them on when there are no real signs that government, AI, corporate controlled social media will improve us.

Check out Jeffrey Sach's recent take on that. You can skip right to 4:50. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_SpW-DyQg&t=318 He was instrumental in the neo liberal conversion of the Soviet union.

This is not unique to duckdns. My own domains with completely innocent content get flagged as unsafe by the big gatekeepers. This is a growing problem for any of us outside their walls.

People act when on the precipice. Decentralized e2ee messengers and servers will thrive now in India: xmpp, matrix, session, tox, briar, Jami..

I also use similar browser isolation strategy. I use one browser for real-ID activity such as banks, domain registrars.. and avoid entering real creds in the private browser to keep an anonymous fingerprint. This is one of those gray areas
