One of the advantages of these being in Apple's ecosystem is that Apple will warn you if a tracking device that doesn't belong to you appears to be on your person.

A little off-topic, but AWS has a service (actually 2) specifically for managing websocket communications. API Gateway supports an unlimited (you need to ask for an increase from the 500 new connections per second rate) number of connection

PON doesn't require asymmetry. It's just a way of coupling to fiber without requiring a power.

It comes up a lot, but it’s an incredibly important story that bares repeating often. Especially with similar issues like the 737-MAX occurring pretty recently.

I'm sensing a data/tracking play with a similar risk as Grammarly (they don't do this currently, but that doesn't mean they can't change their privacy policy tomorrow).

$0.99/TB replicated with Cold Storage seems pretty compelling to me.

Given the storage formats are identical, you should choose the most cost-effective option for your workload now and scale that to larger machines (ARM or x86_64) when it’s justified. I promise you, you’ll know with plenty of time to spare b

An open source product with a market cap of $15B. Neither party is going to come out of this smelling like roses, but ES is hardly a tiny upstart barely able to get by.

Good luck getting your 100Gbps+ sustained (from their actual requirements) of bandwidth in a non-extradition country to your primary audience in the USA.

I'm not going to go into all the reasons why a multi-cloud solution probably isn't and why multi-cloud is stupendously difficult (and expensive as you move all that data around) for a scaling business. But in a situation like this

Most of what I do on my Mac is using Rosetta (developer) and I can easily get an actual 12+ hours out of my MacBook Air compared to around 4 hours from my 16” MacBook Pro. It’s just as fast (or faster). It’s astonishing.

Not quite, there are always a bunch of edge cases that inevitably make "exactly once" actually "almost always exactly once, but always at least once."

If you load all the dependencies outside of the actual event loop, then these will only be loaded in a function's cold start before it is suspended between requests. With this, you're only effectively paying this cold-start costs

With the storage IO right on the SoC I can imagine swapping to feel especially snappy as well. Although it's worth remembering the m1 is just Apple's CPU for their low-end machines. They haven't announced their high-end 13&qu

The screen itself _is_ a commercial product. The custom software to run this is only a few dozen LoC on a server and you could probably work out how to hack it directly with the Visionect software.

If you expect a 12 hour outage, you should probably spec for 12 hours. Memory-based storage is expensive, but not ruinously so. The reason why this needs to be in-memory (I'm guessing) is a combination of dedupe checks and efficient or

You can insert old data up to the in-memory retention period you choose (which can be 1 - 8766 hours). You can't insert future data more than 15 minutes into the future though.

Only 2 years since the original announcement. :D A bit strange that only memory & magnetic stores are currently available. I'm curious as to why the SSD option isn't available yet.

By default, you'd have to do something to touch the keys. But AWS support is more than happy to fire off a full init for a new replication if you ask them.
