Yes I want a Linux phone. But I also want one that has similar app support to Android and iOS. The problem is not with the Linux phones that are out there, it is that no apps are and likely never will be compatible with (non-Android) Linux

Thanks Mozilla. This literally just directed me to this feature. Turned it on and actually feels quite good. Now I'll have to get back to make sure I don't get too used it before its taken away again.

I find this awfully thin. About every device that does TOTP by default takes its time from the network provider, and lets the user set the correct timezone, and makes it even really easy to do so. Since most DST settings for timezones in th

DST has nothing to do with TOTP. The TOTP spec specifies that unix time has to be used as the time source, which does not have DST.

That is the solution I am considering at the moment as well. Its not the prettiest, but it will likely work as a stopgap measure.

I love the PinePhone. It is an amazing project, and I'm definitely considering buying one. However, it does not solve my main problem. For most scenarios I still need a "normal" smartphone with either iOS or Android. Apps lik

I have a similar feeling, but with modern smartphones. Owning my computer is still relatively possible. I can build a computer from parts which I can choose, and have a choice in which operating system to install on them. Laptops are slight

Watch the video. They state that they had MFA turned on before, and that they renewed their password and MFA within five minutes after the supposed security breach.

So, the fact that conservative family values keep the number of single-parent households low is a sign that abstinence works?

My source for this is my professors at the TU/e in Eindhoven and guest lecturers from ASML (TU/e is the closest university to the ASML campus in Veldhoven). Unfortunately I don't have a more reliable source on that though.

What you attribute to abstinence, may very well not be abstinence. The traditionally conservative regions you tell me have different values besides abstinence as well. For example, in Africa and Asia it is much more common that children liv

The type of equipment ASML produces generally gets brought in at a specific time during the construction. They kinda build the cleanrooms around ASML's machines instead of bringing them in afterwards. Retooling for EUV (or any new gene

That's not entirely true. They can kill any small and medium business easily. Taking out larger competitors in such a way will likely invoke lots of unwanted antitrust attention. Over the entire world. But they can easily kill any sm

For anyone looking to tinker with automating their thermostat, I highly recommend looking at the OpenTherm Gateway[1] (OTGW). It uses the OpenTherm protocol which is supported by a lot of heating systems. Though the protocol is backwards co

The best reaction is to approve a vaccine which does not have a good proven track record? It hasn't been through complete Stage 3 trials, so we don't know if it works or if it works well. I'm not saying that the Oxford/A

We unfortunately "reward" our heroes with things like that. Empty gestures. Just a pat on the back. On the other hand we reward the people who actively cheat and exploit the world with large sums of money.

It matters. It may trick people into thinking that longer = more secure. Which is only the case up to a certain extent. If you reach beyond 256 bits of entropy, there is no added security. No current system will use more than that. And goin

What I've done with my RPi 4 is attach an external SSD to it and mount it to /home and /var. This reduces writes to the SD card dramatically. Lengthening the SD card's life. I have serious uptime on it, almost a year (si

A large part of the problem with IPv6 is that most developers and SA's don't have a lot of knowledge about it. This is why everything new is still built with IPv4 in mind, instead of thinking forward to IPv6. I think we could easi

I think selection bias is involved here quite a bit as well. The best people in the field are more likely to take on pupils that they think are very good as well. And those people probably also do some self-selection.

Lets assume that instead that money would go to the employee and not to social security. And we will assume that a large house would cost about 500k EUR. Thus, in 40 years, you would have collected a million euros more. That is about 25k EU

The problem is that if permanent DST becomes the norm, the sun will come up at 9 am instead of 8 am. This means that if you take a 'normal' 9 to 5 schedule, you won't see daylight in the morning. The researchers here are poin
