I live in South Carolina, and have one child in elementary school, and another in middle school. I've been surprised by how quickly the teachers and schools have moved the entire curriculum online. The middle school kids all already

I think I must be the only person alive who actually prefers Pascal-style syntax (VB, VB.NET, Delphi, PL/SQL) to C-style syntax. There are lots of small nice things, such as distinct keywords for end blocks ("End Try", "

This comment seems wrong to me: There is no inherent reason why a more-expensive car should be better or worse in terms of reliability than a less-expensive car, so my guess is they’ll track each other fairly closely going forward

I always marvel at both the differences and the similarities between pictures like these and today. I hope someone over at https://www.reddit.com/r/ColorizedHistory/ takes a crack at some of these.

Yes, that's correct. The containers feature enables profiles on a per-tab basis. As someone who does a lot of account switching, it's a killer feature for me. I would imagine some users would not really find it necessary.

Often yes. Sometimes not. I don't know about the specific ones I mentioned. You can definitely build a self-contained WinForms app in under a meg, though.

I don't necessarily disagree, but MS Paint on my Windows 10 machine weighs in at 6.5Mb. Notepad++ is just 2.5Mb though. And the Windows Media Player is just 163k.

I do contract work for a few clients. I always automate the boring tasks of vpn'ning, firing up remote desktop, connecting to database servers, their email system, etc. Automating that is fiddly and tedious, but it's worth it bec

Mercedes reliability has always been a joke, as any consumer reports study will tell you. They are more a tribute to German marketing than engineering. In any case, there are plenty of high end manufacturers in the american south. BMW and

This is impressive, and I hope Tesla brings loads of great ideas and competition into the auto market. But I think the breathless quality of these stories is misplaced. Tesla's current sales are a tiny fraction of Kia, much less GM.

Three kids here [age, gender] = {[8M,4M,0.5M]} Firstly, the available time is going to decrease. There is just no way around that, and yes that is painful. Hopefully the enjoyment from the kids is worth it, but it's a real trade-off f

I have never worked on code intended for military use. From my layman's point of view, it seems like DoD code would either be "the most boring legacy CMS you can imagine" or "top secret missile guidance AI systems"

I read this as "human employees are hard to find, and really expensive, so we automated". Which I think also means "unemployment is low and wages are high". So.. this is a good thing?

I would dearly love to see this lost work, if only because it was written by Dr. Knuth: I spent a lot of time in high school reading books on orchestration, and I wrote a fairly good-sized work for symphonic band entitled Milton and the Rh

And they are wrong. Criminals should be held accountable, and justice should be blind. Naive or not, those are goals we should uphold as a society, in my opinion.

You say: "only Trump had a less favorable approval rating"... so how is it that the "horrible" option stole votes from the merely "bad" option? If anything, it should have been the other way around, no?
