Absolutely this. They changed names, project format, build tooling, etc faster than the ecosystem could keep up. You couldn’t even be sure there existed a set of compatible ASP.NET Core, EF, and standard library packages in nuget without en

I thought I had things I wanted to do if only I had time. When I had the luxury of taking the last year off I found out that the idea of doing those things was far more appealing than actually doing them. I started to go a little crazy. Now

With FS access you can just strip the signature entirely and it’ll run without any fuss. In this case it’s the machine that’s compromised, not the app.

On Windows, Storage Spaces works pretty well.

If you have space you can “zfs attach” the new drives to make mirror vdevs with the disks they’re replacing, and then “zfs detach” the old drives to break the mirror when done. This is preferable because you’re never exposed to any addition

What exactly did you try? On the surface that sounds pretty straightforward. The problem I most often see people run into is trying to use mismatched drives they have lying around. With ZFS you’ll have a much better time just purchasing mat

You know, that’s actually right. I’m going to reconsider why I’m using 2FA and go all U2F or remove it entirely.

A single use password extension. The important thing here is that you only enter the secret once. It’s different from a password which is reused by design.

I think this article conflates two very different motivations for using 2FA: 1) An organization has valuable resources it wishes to protect and secure from understandable but avoidable user mistakes, like phishing. For example: an employer.

I actually wrote code for this ages ago when I worked on HN. It’s probably still there, if only in git. But it really only makes sense for the internal, secret parts that are YC related. For the forum just use a unique password.

I much prefer when the database enforces integrity by limiting access and preventing corruption from occurring. In Microsoft SQL Server, you can often achieve the desired result with check constraints, primary and foreign keys, indexed view

I don’t see how corporate structure changes anything. It’s a huge gift of tons of work, which is far and away the hard part. They’ve enabled literally anyone who wants to to train their own model on whatever source material they want.

They already released the code and that wasn’t enough for people.

Everything important is open sourced already. The article cites replication as important and then paradoxically argues for releasing the model in lieu of replicating the training and verifying the result. This is the AI equivalent of a phar

Proper documentation, no matter who writes it, should cover how something works and what it does. Pros, cons, benefits and drawbacks are irrelevant here. I want to know when method X of interface Y is called by the framework, with what para

It's been a while, and I've only really used Racket extensively, but "unquote" and "unquote-splicing" operate at macro expansion time, not run time. So unless you're using a typed lisp like Typed Racket, t

The advantage of LINQ in my eyes is that it allows you to build an expression tree that you can wait to evaluate until a result is actually needed. Then the provider can decide how it wants to do it, based on the types and operations involv

Yep! Using Windows 10 via Boot Camp on a Late 2016 MacBook Pro, Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box with 550W Power Supply, and Nvidia Titan X Pascal, everything just works. In macOS, only tears and kernel panics though.

It might also be prudent to register a few numbers in Twilio and have them forward to your references. Then you know if they were called and by whom, all while keeping your references' real numbers private.

This happened to me and I was rather disappointed. I had backups but Apple didn’t even offer to try and recover data at any cost, or allow me to keep the parts with my data still on them.

Their data is useless. They have no way to tie purchases to the movie viewed. I just pick the first thing it’ll let me check in for, not the movie or time I want, and it always works.
