My bad. I suppose you could also credibly argue that since it's open source nothing is impossible, and that MySQL is infinitely more extensible than MSSQL. Also, it seems C/C++ support is deprecated in MSSQL, so it's not a proper solution

I can only guess as to Apple's motivations, but that's probably a liability risk they'd rather not incur. At Loopt we don't have a choice; It's our business.

That title is very misleading. Finding a way to get location from sources other than the phone when the app isn't running is far from "Sneaking Background Multitasking."

You make an excellent point. Given the low quality of the driver ecosystem, I'm amazed that most Windows machines function at all. ATI, Creative, and Silicon Image are at fault for 90% of the BSODs I've ever experienced.

Or you could install it locally... The installed MSDN library is rock solid. I've yet to find an instance of the online docs being better. When I have used online help in visual studio, the worst problems I experienced were some formattin

It loses precision in scenarios where the desired aggregate would not. It's a hack.

Limitations like this are among the most trivial of the reasons I pay for MS SQL. Even though no such built in aggregate is available, I'm free to write my own in C/C++/.Net. I'm pretty sure PostgreSQL lets you extend it however you want a

I got all excited thinking they had made something I could install in my own data center. While nifty, this still doesn't allow me to properly protect my data (whole disk encryption, etc). I want a self-hosted private cloud.

First, it isn't clear how you request a specific item or file from the network. You can request the USB stick, but who knows what will be on it. Second, SMS traffic is already tracked for billing purposes, and is tied to a phone number with

With the accelerometer you can detect gravity (true down) and your angle relative to it. Then model the earth as a plane and keep the label a constant distance above the ground. Seems like they did a good job of it though. It's really slick

Probably GPS + Compass + Accelerometer. You need to be able to detect the angle of the phone as well (looking up, level, or down). The iPhone doesn't have the processing power to do meaningful real-time image recognition.

Boost mobile has multiple J2ME phones available for around $50. Just check Wallmart or Best Buy. You'll need to load the games with a serial cable, but the phones can take a real beating. J2ME has no future, so it'd be a poor startup idea.

For a while at Loopt we considered becoming a Tucows reseller and only holding our domains, but it wasn't worth the effort. Whoever bought our first domain used GoDaddy we just stuck with it. We've seen no pressing reason to switch.

I'm sure it'd be a lot faster if they made a Java Applet or JavaFX version. Is there a reason they didn't? They could always fall back to Javascript if Java wasn't installed.

It's the chicken and the egg problem. Right now I can't name a single US consumer ISP using IPv6. If I update my edge routers, all my firewalls, dns, and all my servers to support IPv6, what have I gained? No users will use it to access my
