Also https://github.com/mailhog/MailHog - although it hasn't been updated in a while. But great for testing mail functionality in applications you're developing.

This sounds like an organisational issue, not a technical, and I predict that this simply won't scale organisational-wise. It sounds like they have given no thought about their platform architecture, deploy pipelines, testing strategie

Completely off-topic, but k8s actually removes a lot of the vendor lock-in. Imagine having to migrate a k8s based app from AWS to Azure vs a pure AWS-based setup, provisioned with cloudformation. Sure it'll involve some work, but I kno

At runtime maybe (although that's also not 100% true) - but I've seen a big project go from being compiled in 10 minutes in our ci, to hours due to the introduction of large features heavily relying on templates. The fix was insta

The problem is that a lot of software in the Java world explicitly relies on it not being compiled AOT. Any standard tomcat or jboss/wildfly application for example.

I think we live in different worlds, and that's a bit PHP's problem, many of it's devs and users do. From my pov, manually logging in on a server has been something for emergencies only for a long time now (10y+), and if it&#

I have a client who's pretty massive database is pretty damn critical, not only for revenue but also legal reasons. It is managed by a separate team. All applications however run on k8s (well, actually openshift), the main reason being

Sorry, but with that attitude, why use curl, and not just netcat or socat? Or just write bash scripts manipulating sockets directly? I think you underestimate a bit what postman can do. Just a few things: import openapi specs and do pretty

As a freelancer focusing on k8s, and who has quite a few clients running OpenShift on-prem or outside of cloud providers, his analysis of RedHat's need for OpenShift shows he does not understand RedHat's biggest customers. They ru

It's not just "abstracting the server". Kubernetes abstracts more than just "a server", it works on a level higher. It does this for storage, networking, compute, services, workloads, scaling, ... and all this is do

Well, I didn't claim it was impossible, I only claimed I wouldn't want to pay for the engineering that would go into enabling this when building that from scratch. But there are of course alternatives to k8s which also enable this

Yes there are other solutions out-there that have been pre-engineered, but he was talking about VM's and apps and rebooting them. Doesn't sound like instance groups to me.

I was talking about doing this on non-k8s platforms :)

K8s makes small-scale hard, but large-scale easy. So no, for a 10 user app you probably won't need it, and would make your life a lot harder. But one of the things many people don't grasp is that scale comes in a few forms. The ob

Can you do that without knowing what apps are running on them? Your entire platform say "do a rolling update" and don't look back? I wouldn't want to have paid for the engineering that went into that if you could actuall

Fully agree. I have a background in C/C++ and a bunch of other languages, I'm probably in a better position to write native apps, and am no Electron fan, but I never got into native GUI's for a reason. Certainly if they have

Many of these points you're mentioning is exactly why k8s was developed. Yes it makes deploying simple applications unnecessary hard, but it make deploying more complicated applications WAY more manageable. So in the k8s world: - auth:
