Great news, their product is awesome and this will hopefully let more people use it. Knowing that Citus is available as an option if you need to scale makes Postgres that much more compelling of a default choice for data store.

Standard ML has existed for 35 years. Even if you started programming with Fortran, it's been around longer than half of your career.

Yeah, that's a good book, but as you noted it falls under teaching a language, not so much teaching how to think.

It's the best book I've found for actually teaching people how to solve problems using programming, rather than just learning semantics. I use it for continuing education at a company, the only complaint I've heard from peopl

Even if you believe that distinction, Scala is different because library writers can use the same language as application developers. That's not true of the divide between implementing and using Go.

Sounds like you are confused about what @tailrec does. @tailrec is not necessary to enable tailcalls. All the annotation does is error if a function is not able to be optimized for tail calls. The (attempt at) optimization takes place eithe

In terms of terrain and culture, once you're in Jollyville / Round Rock, it's not really Austin any more, it's indistinguishable from generic city USA.

Are you saying max 1hr to understand a problem and write 100 loc? Seems unreasonable unless you are working in languages with a bad signal to noise ratio.
