Very cool. How does failover work? I see that Spilo expects a standard load balancer in front of the cluster, but that load balancer won’t be able to track who the writer instance is on its own.

Being fairly familiar with Temporal, I definitely appreciate your cleaner architectural choices. Add a Go SDK and I’ll definitely give this a try.

That’s entirely rational but unless you build from source (and honestly even if you do) there’s an attack vector present. The only real alternative is to review and allow list outgoing network traffic

I think the ARM platform is super cool and I’m glad Apple adopted it, but at the end of the day if the OS is closed source, I’m not that interested in hacking on the instruction set it runs on. In fact the only reasons I’m on a Mac rather t

This is so well explained. Cockroachdb implements serializable by default and it is a great experience being able to write sql with that in mind.

Maybe I don’t have enough ‘AI’ experience to understand, but I’m not getting the future of vector databases. 90% of the use cases I’ve encountered also benefit from keyword search, faceting, etc. and therefore a more traditional search engi

I’m not a stock market person so I’m not going to comment on why this happened or if it is justified, but the ‘AI disruption’ angle that a lot of analysts speak about is pretty uninformed. The large enterprise software companies and consult

I think forking is reasonable in this case. It’s one thing to change the GitHub org for a project because you aquihired the team, but it is another thing entirely to change the name of the project to match your company name, implying that t

Meilisearch has a really clean implementation of this. Can easily adjust keyword vs vector weighting per query.

+1 for Buf Connect. Great CLI, simple codegen configuration, basically no added runtime complexity — it’s just the serialization layer at that point. It’s also great to be able to use it for both the API layer using JSON while also allowing

This is legitimate research but in the medium term, refusal is going to be irrelevant. It is very likely that open weight models continue to be no more than a year or two behind the cutting edge, and it is also likely that established techn

Ubicloud is such a good idea. There's no reason why the major cloud providers need be considered more than data center providers. AWS 'bare metal' instances should be priced as a commodity, just as the data centers it used to

The way I read the incident post, it almost feels like they aren't talking about the actual `postgres://` uri but some other secret that provides database access indirectly, maybe a backend API that uses a single secret key.

I get the frustration with the clever word play, but given the ungodly size of the major cloud providers, licenses like this are necessary for any business offering a hosted version of an open (source) project. I’d rather see the COSS busin
