Well, 34k after taxes in Zagreb, Croatia is about 50k after taxes in Vienna. Given the increased cost of living and quite similar bureaucratic and regulation heavy state I'd say the self-employment is very aggressively taxed. For 50k a

Excluding all confounders in a study like this is statistical error. You cannot do that stuff mathematically with such noisy data. Similar mistakes happen when someone tries to show meat is cancerous or increases all cause mortality.

Well, having a GmbH does not really allow a clean profit extraction without having employees, so when you eventually employ yourself you'll get to around 70%. Austria is one of the worst countries in the world to do any kind of small b

There's a nice talk by Yann LeCun where he goes on to explain really well why deep learning has such fast progress. [0] He goes on to explain how theory always comes later. I thought that information theory came before practice but tur

I do not own anything substantial. Saving for a house in the capital city would take about 15 years of frugal living as a programmer. I could also take a loan. What I also dislike is the tax prepayments for business owners, which is basical

Not cheap if USD keeps falling compared to EUR. My income dropped about 12% since the last peak. Not that I'm complaining, but given the current USD circulation I'm thinking it might lose 50% of value in the next years.

In Croatia the total would be about 63%. If you go through capital gains (no paycheck just profit after corporate tax, capital income tax and VAT) it's 53%. It could go down if some company expenses can be used for your life expenses.

This is very nice. Reminds me a lot of tricks used for simple linear models. And it seems to work, given that Leela Chess Zero is losing with quite a gap. Most of the times one would learn a model by just changing a single feature and then

Exactly. It's a research vehicle. Not everything in Haskell is useful for business or productivity. The reason I stopped using it is because of performance. Despite having state of the art optimizations there it's still too slow f

I'm definitely humble when it comes to assuming consciousness and would rather consider it a spectrum than a binary thing.

Interesting, the first thing that I assumed was that it's easy to compare one solution to another and get a nice finegrained comparison. For example, a set of solutions with some parameter is always inferior to another set with a bette

Why isn't it possible to go through some kind of a search tree and prune the solution set? I guess to parametrize the theory it takes something other than masses of elementary particles and a few constants? If I had that big of a solut

Another lovely fact is that more plant mass is eaten by the animals grown for food than humans, so the plant production problem is non-existent. At least when it comes to human consumption.

Yep, I was mind blown when I started using futures years ago with this coloring. But then I realized it’s all about types and monoids and applicatives and it started to get clear why I just can’t get the value out of a promise.

But the state is not mutable, the state is inside a React.Context that provides functions that manipulate it. It's practically the same as redux. You still need to have async actions with redux and use these actions. mobx on the other

I think hooks and effects are really good. You can test them separately. You can write global reactions to state changes very easily. I find hooks/effects better than mobx or redux. hooks/effects, redux, mobx would be my preferenc
