Yeah, I'm an owner of http://www.isotope11.com and our designer threw it together in a couple of days. He's awesome, and he's leaving shortly, and we'll miss him :(

I'm depressed that so many of the comments here focus on the single window mode, instead of being thrilled about GEGL/Cairo. Those are the killer features that will underpin the GIMP's next few years of awesome features. Also, layer groups

Any reason you don't host those static files on a public 'web enabled' ec2 bucket? We do that for http://www.incubatebang.com and it costs us like $1.40/year for hosting

Back 8 or 9 years ago I architected and worked on a team to write a very large and feature-rich application that depended on XSLT for a ton of UI-deriving functionality. I found it extremely powerful. I have never used it again, because the

You could...use solar power. Your idea of 'beyond common sense' seems pretty limited in scope. And the F in FOSS isn't about price, it's about liberty. This is the very first thing anyone involving themselves in a discussion on FOSS shoul

We recently implemented a policy for my 6 year old that consists of "you may watch 30 minutes of TV per day for each book [of unspecified length] that you read that day." So far he hasn't started reading more books, but he's started playing

This article was more about DAG than shiny 'how are our servers' graphs. Sounds a lot like you just posted to a story acting like you read it so you could advertise, than that you are contributing to this topic :-\

Sorry for copy-pastaing my reddit comment on this same article, but I think it's relevant to your point. --- I feel very strongly about this, and I agree entirely. I think projects should go one step further. For something like forem, I thi

If Google sells ads to me, or my personal information that I gave them down the road, then that affects me. If Microsoft uses their power to force future hardware to be unable to boot linux / other FOSS OSes, then that affects me WAY MORE.

Ever read Ivan Illich's _Deschooling Society_? I like his take on this, and it doesn't particularly jive with what you're saying here. In general 'educators' generally are not so great.

We invoice weekly. Depending on our terms with the client, if they aren't paying on time we stop work. This results in at-most 2 weeks of unpaid work, and typically they have a lot invested in seeing it through to completion because alrea

Good God, this. I spend 95% of each day (not just my 8-5 - 95% of my time on a computer at all) in vim. The rest is in firefox or in a console briefly to tell it to run my tests. I code all day every day, and I quite enjoy it. Today, I ha
