> It's like saying if Obama visits Facebook or Google headquarters these companies now are CIA outlets I feel like you should have used a better analogy, since Facebook is effectively a CIA outlet. They received funding from them.

I think that your point is legitimate but that you overvalue the value of it. Yes, in that hypothetical situation, the CEO would be receiving disproportionate credit for the success. I even think this might happen quite a bit. But things

Writing specifications, and knowing which items in the roadmap bring the most value to the greatest numbers, are hugely different beasts. I definitely took the PR-driven approach to mean identifying those 2 items, even if taken by themselv

I'm always surprised at this sort of feeling. The collective actions of everyone else at the company, if the company is not run pathologically, exist solely to pursue the goals of the CEO. The CEO sets the goals: describes what it is that

For the compute-intensive work, why not just shell into a beefy box? We spent $3k on a 96M RAM 12core(+ht means 24 apparent cores) box that we run OpenStack on, with a big-ass SSD and 2 TB of spinny platters, and it's PHENOMENAL to use rem

This, a thousand times. Of course the US doesn't look as democratic as some would like. It was explicitly set out to NOT be democratic. The fact that we're now trying to "spread democracy" abroad is anathema.

A billion times, this. I just learned of GNU Parallel about 3 months ago and wish everyone knew about it. Have seen it used to stunning effect with a comically large pipeline (OCR patents) across a comically large number of EC2 instances.
