This is great advice. I go to as many local startup meetings as I can. Besides being a great place to meet people, they're almost universally a lot of fun.

You might want to check out http://www.smashingdarling.com . Not saying that there's not room for multiple competitors in this space, but thought it might be a good place to see what's working, what's not, and some areas where you might b

Congrats!! I love Weebly - a few weeks ago I was doing a post about how easy it is to create an online web shop using a local startup, and even after wasting 20 mins trying to fiddle around with a similar site, I was still able to get the s

Tom, if you read this, think about turning on comments. Would have liked to have given you a nice "Great post, congrats!" on the post directly. :)

Day 91: Write a linkbait article about how to launch a successful blog. j/k, these tips are good, but only about 5% of the overall picture. 95% = must love blogging. There's a pretty easy test, just ask yourself if (honestly) you'd rather

One problem with options is the rift it may cause between people who joined the company while the stock was going up versus those who joined while the stock was going down. The people with the sinking options start to wonder why the guy ne

If I were Microsoft, I'd much rather spend that money to buy Microsoft stock rather than Yahoo stock. I actually don't think MS stock is a bad buy right now - they're not in debt (never have been in their history) and they're a year or so

This is basically the message that Tim O'Reilly delivered at the Web 2.0 Keynote in the spring - we need to focus on the hard problems: http://tinyurl.com/6zahvu That being said, the beauty of a democratic society is that everyone has a c

Not looking to start a company, just looking for a fun weekend project to hack on. I've got some thoughts on which one I want to take on, but it never hurts to get some feedback from the community.

Google's moves in the wireless space remind me of the first season of Lost. Either they're doing something really brilliant, but you just can't piece it together yet, or they're just making stuff up as they go and will figure it out later.

That's the plan. Three things: 1. I have a lot of respect for what you guys think and wanted to get some input on which one to tackle. 2. It's more fun for me to work on a project with other people than to go it alone. This is my way of t

Last year I checked out this list and was shocked to see that one of the top 30 was a girl that I had dated a few years back! If only I had just "listened" or "not made out with her best friend", I'd be set for life.

In my opinion, yes, Google will keep crawling the web and indexing in a similar (but continually optimized) way for the foreseeable future. Here's why - let's say you work at Google and come up with an entirely new way to do search. Here
