Not 100% sure I understand your question but if you're asking about 4040 vs 6502 as contenders for Apple II in 1977 - the 4040 was a much more limited design than the 6502 and would not have been viable as the Apple's CPU.

Thanks so much! There is so much to cover in Part 2 so it might take a little while. Completely agree that the 6800 needs more love. It was a really important design. PS I'd not seen Mensch's comment that Peddle's intention w

Thanks for sharing this - it's a great interview. I do think there is a subtlety about the 'wasn't intended to compete with the 6800' line though. Chuck Peddle recognised the market for a much cheaper version of the 6800

Cortex A76 hardware was first available in 2018. Just because A76 happened to appear on an SBC 18 months or six months ago using this as a milestone doesn’t give a realistic impression of the relative timelines of the two architectures.

Hi, Author here. Apologies, I should have made it clear that this was intended to be a short list of microprocessors only, mostly to leave room for a follow up on microcontrollers like the 8051. Completely agree that the 8051 deserves a pla

ASML? Swiss?? Nee! Don’t disagree with your general point though. Also there is always the option of industrial espionage as we have seen. Leaving the politics aside, it will be interesting to see what technical solutions emerge if the ‘eas

So you get a vast amount more choice for the same price? That doesn’t factor into your assessment of value at all?

Piracy did well for a while in the CD era. There is no evidence that current prices represent a ceiling for what would work in 2023 before people would turn again to piracy.

This may be an unpopular opinion but streaming music prices have to rise for artists to get a fair deal. Current prices are an incredible bargain and only so because they don’t reflect the true value of the product. Anything else is just tr

RPi is a member of the RISC-V foundation but I don't think that that is anything about saving money, it's about the extra flexibility that it would have given RPi, as they are doing quite a lot of their own silicon these days. Com
