Businesses gave FB data that matched an email with a valid FB profile, so they stored the data and expose it to you in OFA. That's not shadow profiles, that's exposing the info they collected for your real profile.

If I'm reading the actual paper correctly, they looked at Nielsen data from 2016 and figured out that FB trackers fire for a large percentage of web traffic for both FB users and non-users. Their conclusion is that it's likely FB

Workplace Chat is like Slack and depending on the team, that can be where a lot of the discussion happens. For a couple of my teams I feel like it’s been the worst of both worlds. I still have emails, gotta check my WP posts, but also have

Yea, TikTok is playing in a similar place (big creators, lots of passive people) but their algo + video being stickier has led to massive wins. I think it’s late for Twitter, but interesting thought exercise on what could have been if they

My house probably burned, we’ll find out in the morning. Family is safe, got out in time and we have a place to stay, so blessed in that regard. We just moved from the Bay Area last year. This isn’t an area in the wilderness, it’s suburbia.

FB stock went up the day the lawsuit was filed, so the market clearly doesn't think it has much of a chance.

My house (2500 sq ft) has an insurance cost of $300K to rebuild from scratch. You’re saying they’re spending $8M building houses better in China? In most of these places with insane house price to income ratio, it’s the land, not building c

Headline is misleading. In 2018, 50% of voice messages in chats came from Cambodia. That’s way different than “voice traffic” which most people would assume includes calling.

But if you’re using instances someone else is hosting, aren’t you hitting half the author’s objections? - They may be hosted in the US - They may be hosted on AWS - You have no idea if the maintainer of the instance is tracking you

If the Ghost CEO really knew better about Twitter they’d recognize that this person is flaming for attention, not trying to get their problem resolved, so sending condescending emails is just throwing fuel on the fire.

I think you just want to argue. Using IG as an example, if you think a completely separate app with a billion monthly active users isn’t doing anything more than FB did at IPO, you’re never going to be convinced. If you think selling the mo

I think there are two parts, one which is resolvable and one which isn't. FB doesn't "do that much more today than in 2012" - completely resolvable. I hear statements like this all the time. FB/Google/Amazon do

Not a great example. FB’s product surface is easily 10x 2012. If you think FB == news feed, go dig into the app. Marketplace didn’t exist in 2012, for example. Also, IG acquisition was in 2012 post-IPO, WhatsApp and Oculus were after that.

In HCOL areas of the US, 10% down is becoming more common with private lenders and 5% is even a possibility (or at least was pre-pandemic). Pre-pandemic we had multiple competing banks for a $1MM+ mortgage w/ 10% down.

Feedback on the site - probably should have some kind of way to let companies get off the list. For example, I know Twitter has a big office in Boulder, but they're on the list for a single job posting from two months ago that 404s.
