If you read Sebastian's blog, he wants to have the power to change the world, essentially, when the world needs changing. He believes his path is the most pragmatic way to do so. I think I agree.

I adore SM's brand - it's quite refreshing to me, and possibly the only blog I read every single new post of.

I also feel like an upvote is not sufficient to express my appreciation that you took the time to write this empathetic and informative post.

That would be worth gold the right buyers, assuming legal cleared it. Is there an ethical issue, do you think, with not informing the fillee of that? No current opinion either way.

You are assuming that ads are objectively bad, which is not true for everyone. I don't mind having ads on my results at all.

Factory jobs pay more than double the average wage in all developing countries. They are demanded by workers and much anguish is caused when they are lost.

Thank you for this reply. I am very interested in seeing data against the KIPP model - what sources would you recommend? EDIT: just read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_Is_Power_Program#Crit... , which is certainly interesting.

I would want the ability to easily create opt in geofencing for geographic texting at any location - central park, a bar, etc. A bit different from your vision.

The KIPP program seems to work very well. I believe it's because it creates a cult-like environment, and I mean this in the best and most impressed way. It keeps poor opportunity kids (chosen by lottery) in school from very early to very la

There is so much potential for geo-fencing. I'm currently trying to figure out how to use it for a one-time scavenger hunt, with no luck in figuring out the tech. A service for this would be worth money, certainly.

Considering this is obviously and forthrightly shown to be a very unusual method of managing employees in the first few paragraphs of the article, common sense would tell you that this could not be evidence for anything like that.

The advertising business is blooming with new technologies, in all the fields you mentioned (just take a look at sample projects of any of the major agencies right now). Designers for websites, interactive ads display, apps, and much more.

It is interesting to me how much a subset of hacker news readers, such as yourself, hate advertising. Many laypeople find the pre-movie advertisements a lot of fun. Heck, my girlfriend prefers TV advertisements to many shows.

I've always found people get it very well when I explain it like this: Me: "You know when you search on Google for stuff?" Them: "Yeah" Me: "And there's a list of things to click on? You usually look at the top ones first, right?" Them: "Ye

What are the best books available on the subject of predicting human behavior, if you don't mind me asking? Advanced or technical are fine, scientific journals would be over my comprehension, I'm afraid.
