It reminds me of the criticisms of Guy Kawasaki (of Rich Dad, Poor Dad fame). He gives mostly excellent advice, but markets it to the lowest common denominator so a lot of smart people turn away. It actually shows something about the HN cro

I live in Ozone Park and like it a lot. Rent is $1150 for a one bedroom.

You might save more money in NYC, even. 1,400 will also get you a 2 bedroom an hour commute from Manhattan (Ozone Park, Forest Hills), or a one bedroom with a 30 minute commute to Manhattan (Astoria, certain parts of Brooklyn).

You said it exactly right. If you're single (even in NYC) it's easy to save lots of money making 50k a year.

That's very entertaining to me! I never really cared about quality myself, though nowadays I love Pandora as compared to youtube.

Thanks doubly for the detailed response. I very much enjoyed Fromm's Escape from Freedom when I read it a few years ago, I will definitely buy the Art of Loving.

Thank you for this detailed and informative reply. Is there any business school you know of that teaches a better way?

I am surprised the number of white men marrying asian women is so low (though it is high compared to others). I imagine living in NYC skews my view a great deal though.

Is there a good beginner book for this? Of course I've read a great deal in the past regarding the minds working but never had anything in one place. It seems like it would be pretty useful.

This is not bad at all. I feel like the government should use game theory everywhere - for the poor they want to succeed and teach themselves, for the rich paying taxes, etc. It's proven to work in so many situations.

Hi Matt, I'm sure your busy and don't want to answer all SEO related questions anyway. I wanted to ask, though, what Google things about the importance of exact anchor text in rankings as remarked upon in http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-org

I think the average person minds ads much less than the average programmer/technical person. Just my personal experience. An online example would be the constant barrage against advertising on Reddit, which you don't really see in communiti

Really? That's considered astonishing violence? I only skipped through it but I didn't even see gore, just a lot of fighting, explosions and robots. The beginning of Saving Private Ryan is 20x more violent.

It's the paradox of choice, as written about in many places. Give people many choices and many options and they will be, on average, less happy. Someone who assumes the only way to be is by being a subsistence farmer is not so unhappy.

Yes, what has been found is that anything below $60,000 is strongly correlated with unhappiness, but it flattens out above 60 annually. This was in a TED talk, probably one by Hans Rosling.

I don't understand how someone like you wouldn't find work. Where do you live? Did you have extremely high expectations? I don't mean to be rude, I ask because the qualifications you have are outstanding, and I am curious.

First of all, non technical people have no idea that something like demand media might be "bad" for the internet. There's certainly nothing obvious about it. Secondly, if Google ranks based on certain factors, is it wrong for a business or
