_Do we_ have the cables and ports? AIUI 8K HDR 120 doesn't fit in DisplayPort 2.1 without DSC.

Sure, but they were designed with that in mind, and have presence and authentication requirements, that, as I understand, are not retro-fittable to older devices. My claim isn’t “it’s impossible to implement a secure bootloader that also ha

How do you see this being viable without completely compromising the security of people who, for whatever reason, still use those devices?

I find the regularly scheduled "ooh, a small(er) phone" HN posts very amusing. Hundreds of comments from nerds with niche obsessions and preferences yelling into the ether about "why won't anyone make this?!". Inevi

Passwords in iCloud Keychain have a very easy plaintext export option, and there's no social graph component to it, so I don't really understand how that's a lock-in vector.

No, that is the correct tradeoff for the _vast_ majority of the users. The built-in weather services in the OS should cater to the majority of the use cases, not a tiny and narrow minority. And I hope we can agree that „people who distrust

`pbcopy` and `pbpaste` are one of my most-loved in the list. Dealing with some minified json, switching to iTerm, doing `pbpaste | json_pp | pbcopy` and having a clean output is _so_ nice.

Genuinely asking: wouldn’t a phone be _better_ for you? Reading a _paper_ menu in a dim room is a miserable experience, but you can zoom in as much as you want on a phone, and you control the brightness of it, and don’t have to angle the pi

The current top-of-the-line LG OLEDs hit ~1500 nits in HDR: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/g3-oled The QD-OLEDs from Samsung which use a similar trick as their "Quantum-Dot" LCDs do, also hit

The real answer is that it doesn't matter: vast majority people buying bleeding-edge OLED TVs (yours truly included) will not use the same TV for 10 years. And for exactly the same reason most people buying high-end computers and phone

Weight. Phones are heavy nowadays as is, and you can’t just leave that extra volume with air. Making the batteries fill the space would make the phones too heavy to be comfortable to use for many people.
