I'd try to contact Assetnote. Most (sadly not all) managed vuln scan companies are pretty sensitive to scanning stuff that doesn't belong to their client and could expose them to liabilities because they don't have permissio

Oh, yeah...and the Signetics 2650 (used in some OG video games) was heavily cribbed from the IBM 1130.

I'll be honest...I never really 'got' the PDP-8. It's a great example of what really, really smart folks can come up with when you have a very limited transistor budget. The ISA is limited and quirky (aka 'strange

If I recall correctly, Oracle best practices back in the day (waaaay back) was always put the DB on raw partitions, which caused us some issues with existing tooling. I've been fortunate enough to not have to pay attention to Oracle b

There are also semiconductor reimplementations of some of these classic minicomputers if you was the real thing in a smaller package. The Harris/Intersil 6100/6120 processor line was basically a highly integrated PDP-8 on a chip.

What made you play a game for a couple of hundred hours to then conclude that it is boring? Because I really wanted to like it? Because it didn't get boring immediately? Because the updates kept promising to make it better? I dunn

No, you didn't hit bad randomization. That's the game. It's just that some people apparently like that or can look at two identical structures with different color tints and convince themselves "Totally different! Gam

I pretty much knew someone would show up with a condescending "if you didn't like NMS its your fault and you're a bad person". And here they are.

Noone said it was empty. Noone said there wasn't a lot of 'stuff' in NMS. What many of us are saying is that all that stuff doesn't make the game fun.

Yeah...I played it for probably a couple of hundred hours...and it wasn't that fun. In fact, it's boring. And I've come back a too many times because someone (like some of the commenters here) said "no, man...get the n

That's pretty much the perfect description of NMS. Every planet is 'different', every site on the planets are 'different', but not different in any meaningful way. Oh look...this planet has 4 legged animals that a

Couple of things (having lived in this world). The people running this stuff aren't by default stupid (well, not always), and not assuming they are helps with understanding. First, someone has to pay to migrate apps, and as often as n

At my last enterprise gig (financial, ~85k employees), when I inventoried apps for cloud migration, there were around 1500 what I guess you'd call 'thick apps', and about 75% of them were some variation of "stubborn thic

I'm quite clear on what the point of an RTOS is, thank you. But I wasn't addressing that, which is the point you seem to have missed.

That place is (was) a complete madhouse, in all the best possible ways. Piles and piles of crazy electronic bits, many custom builds, many of inscrutable purpose. It was like the prop room for 50s/60s pulp sci-fi movies. Good times.

I speculate pretty soon they won't even bother with a website meatbags can browse to. It'll all be fed by links to links to api endpoints that stream training data to push models in the desired direction.

Have you seen the maintenance manuals on an aircraft production line? They're in 3-ring binders, so you can take out and replace pages. They are constantly being corrected and updated. The industry recognizes they're never at 1
