Hardly any American soldiers. Wars still result in large numbers of other casualties; civilian and military. https://www.iraqbodycount.org/ Let's not forget what is happening in Palestine, too. Leaving aside the politi

The 'there are other worse things so we can ignore this' argument? Really?

What unsubstantiated, loaded dross. Sorry but what point is there in saying what you have? How does progress any discussion at all?

'Decentralising the internet', if considering the web as an important part of that, pretty much is an effort to break apart Google. Google is a centralised web made reality.

Very nice. I put the slider all the way to the maximum - £500 per person per week and there are still some parts of central London that are listed as 'too expensive'. Or perhaps is there no data for those parts?

Are these people concerned with security or are they running a protection racket? The way you put it is starting to sound like the latter.

Get ready to hear indirectly from IDF PR the standard line of defence of their recent actions. "They started it!"

Well I've been using cider / nrepl.el for a long time and never knew this. Don't know how I missed it. Thank you.

Seconded. I was working with a mix of Java and Ruby for roughly a decade. I've been working full time with Clojure for about two years now, and on and off for a couple of years before that. Fantastic introductory guide. Clojure really

Sounds fascinating. In fact, it almost sounds too good. My concern is that it seems intimate. There are not many people I want to connect with on an intimate level.

Oh I'm sorry. You're absolutely right. Hold on for just five years while I perform a study to find the correlation, then after that we can argue about the causation until we both die.

Here's another idea I have no evidence for. Maybe it is a compounding problem, maybe it is the problem, maybe it's total nonsense. Perhaps we are seeing the affect of an increase in difficulty of pushing the boundaries of basic sc

1970 is about the end of the Apollo programme, and I presume the end of the massive government spending on science and engineering that went with it. You're right, a libertarian view of this is way off the mark.

I think the mention of JVM start up time is a bit erroneous. A mechanism for uninterrupted service during deployments is needed whether the JVM takes a millisecond, a second or a minute to load up. The article is interesting though.

I agree and I think you're coming to a problem with how we think about achievement in general. Getting to the moon was the end result of many small achievements that were themselves the result of individual pursuit. I guess it is fair

Yes creativity as an individual pursuit, and the acknowledgement (in my mind,) of nearly every human pursuit as being a creative endeavour, is not a vision of loneliness, of people performing in isolation not caring for anything else. These

As far as I remember, stopping Concorde had more to do with poor sales after the Air France crash rather than anything inherent in cost efficency.

I'd love to know why this is down voted, because it is unequivocally true. Nearly all letting agents (probably all?) in the UK vet potential tenants and will run various forms of check, including credit checks. They will also ask for p
