There are all kinds of poor customer experience edge cases that arise if people can go back and forth, and Apple wants to protect the customer experience and brand from that. Whether you agree with their reasoning or not, it is what it is.

The whole point is that they are vastly different. Of course it’s an apple’s to oranges comparison. Nobody is trying to compare the two statistics as if they were the same - that wouldn’t make any sense. The comparison is between 2 billion

Depends what counts as an MAU. I deleted my Twitter account, but I can’t realistically delete my Facebook account because I have too many messenger contacts to make it worth doing. I occasionally receive a text message fron someone I have

Yeah - that could be solved by a one way fuse that unlocks the bootloader but prevents you from ever reinstalling iOS. I’m not actually kidding. I’d be quite happy to be able to install Linux on my old iOS devices that Apple no longer sup

Sure, but that only applies to devices that aren’t being maintained by someone else, and frankly, it’s not obvious to people who have to maintain their own devices and do a better job, so it’s not clear that there’s any particular argument

I’m curious how that works out for him. I have been using mine fairy intensely for work since I got it on Friday, and I don’t do it anything remotely like that. I do use screen mirroring with my Mac, and it works well for me. My physical

I don’t notice the weight, and I’ve used mine for at least 4 hours a day since Friday. For me it was literally painful with the solo loop after less than 20 minutes, whereas with then dual loop it’s absolutely fine. There are lot of differe

Good information. Then the solution would be to improve harassment legislation rather than limiting the availability of tools. Just as assault is illegal but we don’t require all hammers to be made out of foam.

I think it's fair to say that having sharp text without screen door alone is doing something different than the existing headsets, and is very important for the more serious uses Apple is imagining.

Network transparency is exactly what people want. If you're going to say just tether it to your computer with a wire then you just aren't understanding the product.

Amongst many possible edge cases. Not to mention shearing with things that have rapid animations etc. The trivial case is simple. You are imagining it's all the trivial case.

Exactly that. A local only path that provides high performance. Remember the original comment was the claim that Xorg could easily do remote windows years ago. This is only true using the low performance path that modern operating systems

Such a bad take. A Quick Look at the developer docs would show that this speculation is baseless.

The verge is probably the most critical. Here’s what they say: “marvelous display, great hand and eye tracking, and works seamlessly in the ecosystem, … The Apple Vision Pro is the best consumer headset anyone's ever made” Yes, they a

I think you have rose tinted glasses. I had one too, and the browser was garbage over 2g. You forget how much time was spent looking at that checkerboard pattern. As for email. Proper email client? It was pop3 only, and you had to manuall

How can you assure us that Vision Pro is nowhere close to that? Do you have one? As someone who bought the original iPhone, it was extremely impressive, but had many many flaws. The browser was practically unusable over 2g and the whole p

It wasn’t to force users to use the mouse. It was to force developers to create software that used the new paradigm rather than just porting over CLI apps. Apple still uses this tactic a lot, and it’s one of the things that irritates peopl

Except that doesn’t actually do it. It is just a proof of concept. Try it with a full suite of Mac Apps and you’ll find it falls apart because they aren’t all well behaved.

And the reason Xorg is now dying in favor of a system that doesn’t have this capability is because the architecture that enabled it, while cool at the time, severely limited the graphics performance and capability of the applications.

The retort makes more sense if you think of it as being addressed to someone like Epic, who frankly could take Android and build it into something more competitive, which would benefit us more than just deciding Apple has won.

That's the opposite of a value add. What you are describing is an unavoidable cost of doing business which Apple is entitled to charge developers for.
