Although this one actually highlights the 'accident' which the linked post does not. Quite interesting fact on its own.

I am in New Zealand and I find DDG works well. I switched from Google several years ago and whenever I accidently use Google (e.g. on a new device) I must say I wasn't impressed with the quality of Google's results -- DDG is easil

*BSD provide x86 binaries for most (if not all) packages so this is a non-issue IMHO.

I have family members who buy new computers every few years just so they can play web-based games on Facebook with reasonable performance. This is quite understandable given how poorly the Facebook website performs even with modern browsers

I switched to Wayland without even noticing when I did a fresh install of Debian a few years back. I didn't realise Debian had switched to Wayland by default in the version I was upgrading to. I honestly only noticed several months lat

Same goes for PCs sadly. Soldered on RAM is becoming the norm -- even Lenovo does that on their high-end ThinkPads.

Silly question perhaps, but what happens if a certain website changes to a different domain. E.g. a takeover of Company B by Company A who then decides to migrate all Company B passkeys to Company A and removes assets hosted under the Compa

Can confirm this. Additionally, the Bitwarden app on mobiles also checks the app name (i.e. the 'com.company.appname' not the 'user friendly' name). It takes an extra step to 'force' Bitwarden to use a username

Pro Tip: There is a Firefox extension that forces YouTube to use H.264. Even though my machine does hardware accelerated VP9 I've found it to be unreliable. Switching to H.264 makes YouTube videos play smoothly. All other videos sites

Same here, I also use Firefox ESR from Debian packages and I've observed Firefox to lock up hard a few times. Often to the point it affects the entire desktop so not quite sure if it's a bug in Firefox itself or possibly elsewhere

You mean the same Gmail that is responsible for >50% of all spam to other providers? They may be good at filtering mail from other providers to Gmail accounts, but they are lousy when it comes to the other direction i.e., mail out of G

I have a Gmail account I opened in the early days of Gmail and stopped using on a regular basis when I got my own domain around mid-2000's. Whenever I occasionally check in, I always find heaps of spam. Many I've tried unsubscribi

In the days I ran my own main server for my domain I was surprised to find that well over 50% of spam originated from Google (both emails with @gmail.com domains but also emails from other domains being processed via their servers). And I w

I personally am wary over passkey. An Android update to my S21 earlier this year dropped support for hardware keys. Now whenever I try to sign into a site that expects my hardware key the Google passkey dialog pops up and I have no way to u

Which platforms allows you to enroll your yubikey as as a passkey? I know Google for example does not support hardware keys within their Passkeys system and that's a major gap IMHO.

I think you missed the point in the post that you are replying to saying carriers have dropped 3G and the only remaining 2G network is also on its way out. Where I live all carriers are planning to phase out 3G by the end of 2025. All but o

Coming to Python from PHP it was interesting to see that in the PHP world I'd get 80% of my knowledge from the PHP documentation and 20% elsewhere. In the Python world it's easily the other way around. It also doesn't help th
