Not every ISP has malicious DNS resolution. For many people outside the US, their ISP DNS server is a superior option to Google DNS.

Been a while since I've used Debian but I'm sure Debian is already using NetworkManager. This means the Raspberry OS has actually removed NetworkManager from its Debian base and put in something else. I agree with the OP this shou

Are you able to play videos on it? Arch Linux ARM struggles to play videos smoothly. The official distribution seems to be better only if you use their Desktop Environment and certain blessed apps—I switched to a different DE and all of a s

I bought a ThinkPad X1 that came with Windows. Had no trouble changing that to a dual boot arrangement with Debian. Kept that for a few months until I realized I was going weeks without booting into Windows. Ended up making the switch to a

I have a Raspberry Pi 4. If you use the official distro, which includes all the hacks to make the hardware function, it works well yes but only barely. Try any other distro and it does not work very well since Linux itself doesn't actu

I think it is quite possible there is few if any binary blobs. I have a Lenovo X1 and everything pretty much works out of the box on base Arch Linux (and Debian before that). I think it also helps that my X1 has Intel graphics, Intel Wi-Fi,

I believe you are referring to hardware acceleration for stuff other than video (which I guess is what WebRender is about). I have no problems with this, and indeed WebRender is enabled by default in my installation of Firefox 93, GNOME, Wa

I know it's proving the point in the article, but I thought I'd let you know Firefox can be configured to do hardware acceleration. There's a nice article in the Arch Linux wiki that describes the steps needed to turn it on:

Screen tearing is something I've seen happen a few times across different hardware combinations. Sometimes it just works out of the box (e.g. my laptop using Intel graphics on Arch Linux experiences no tearing in any application) somet

Performance is still variable on Samsung/Xioami devices in my experience. I have a Samsung S21 which can be really fast one minute and stuttering the next. Possibly it's better on Google's own devices.

Most (if not all) major cloud providers do this if you use their provided images. If you want to avoid agents, then go with a provider that allows you to upload your own ISO which means you can install a vanilla OS.
