I'd rather not fall for the false dichotomy at all, and instead have the algorithm ensure that I won't end up in any sort of hole whatsoever, by choice or otherwise.

When I first heard of it I thought it was some kind of a joke on the current state of desktop software, and a rather tasteless one at that. Then it was recommended to me where I was studying...

I will very quickly stop using a given website if it doesn't provide a good, on-site search. If I'm looking for information that I know exists on a particular website, I see no reason to involve a third-party search engine in the

I've always been under the impression that -03, -0fast and related "performance" tweaks are not recommended, and shouldn't be used unless the software in question is specifically written with them in mind.

I think it's sad whenever I see people that are very proud of just how tech illiterate they are and just how little they understand computers. It's like teenagers who brag about how badly they scored on on their exam. In many aspe

"Banana republic" implies more than what the dictionary definition is. If you look at the wealth distribution in any example "banana republic", you'll find a few very wealthy people/warlords and many dirt poor

I applaud for having the balls to post zerohedge here. I only skim the headlines most of the time but now and again, they post a really good article with in-depth information if you have the patience to see past the heavily opinionated comm

I have never had problems with sleep because of blue light from my monitors, nor can I say wether or not it's "dangerous," but in my experience it definitely does cause temporary eye strain. In a dark room, using a blue light

It's good to keep in mind that nuclear power is a (arguably beneficial and good) "halo product" of nuclear bombs, not the other way around.

The author, as I see it based entirely on this one article, likely wasn't trying to "hurt their business," unless (lol) their business is unhealthy addiction. Building on your example, imagine your store was of the liquor var

This same old comment seems to show up in these threads like clockwork. Surely no one in this world is truly obligated to do anything at all, but kicking out users based on vague reasoning detriments their value as a social network.

I wouldn't use the word nihilism. I'm quite the deep-eco hardliner and in the brightest future I can realisticially dream of, power isn't reliably available to anyone anywhere they wish. Reducing energy consumption is key, no

As a non-american, my picture of the american media started shattering with the Iraq war, and especially the events preceding it. It's only been down-hill since then.

I'm interested in the SSH test, but I use a non-standard port for SSH. I've been lead to believe this is a common practice, is there an option hidden somewhere? From what I can tell it just automatically tries 22 and fails.
