I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about Nerdwriter1. I loved his Shane Black and Lord of the Rings leitmotif videos but some of the more conceptual stuff can be pretty hard to take. A good example would be his Bon I

I listened to an interview that discussed ITER's blanket in detail recently and while it seems like a very impressive bit of materials science, they seemed to have no doubt it'd work. Plus, won't nearly all neutrons be incide

Perhaps you could link me to an example where that happened? Probably the most famous cases of Monsanto suing farmers were Bowman v. Monsanto and Monsanto v. Schmeiser. In both cases the infringement was entirely purposeful. Schmesier'

I'm always interested in people's perceptions of Monsanto considering that to me they seem like an entirely pedestrian and boring GM crops company with a couple of cool products. Perhaps you could explain why you dislike them and

On the other hand, if you search "organic food worse for environment" you get results which explain why organic farming is less sustainable. Your search results are dependent on your query so if you search "vaccination schedu

Sure, I understood that. My interest was that given the knowledge that the Byzantines and Ottomans were enemies and then the Ottomans conquered the entire region, what would be the relevance of an Ottoman tradition to assassination of a Byz

The HN community is interesting in that respect and it's not only with some medical issues. As an example, any article on pesticides and modern food production will be full of comments decrying them and claiming health/taste benef

I'm interested by your experience because I've always wondered if using one of these services to learn how to cook doesn't really reflect how most people actually cook in their home which is not to really have strict recipes

The Stanford Student Space Initiative's valbal is an interesting project where they add a lightweight set of ballast and a valve to a weather balloon so it can maintain an altitude. They're limited by power, the amount of ballast,

After reading the article the chips they chose shook the world because of their silicon, not good tool support like AVR studio and Arduino, which was what made the Atmegas so popular. The 328 in particular is otherwise a boring and low powe

For number 2, there could be any number of solutions to fix those degrees of freedom. Intuitively, a maximum margin separator for determining the division wouldn't seem to be a terrible idea.

I think single transferable vote is a much better way of addressing that criticism. We have it where I live and it has tended to produce fairly boring yet representative elections.

It wasn't only basic spaceflight. It was basic physics in general. Like when the two protagonists are somehow hanging off the ISS and Clooney has to let go because Bullock can't pull him in. It's a huge important moment plot

Wikipedia seems to imply that the plan for Red Dragon is a direct atmospheric entry. It makes sense, they don't have a second stage that would last long enough to get there. They don't have the delta-V to get the second stage into

Dragon is barely capable of landing on the moon if you remove the heat shield and replace it with more fuel and fit additional fuel storage in the capsule. Its powered descents on Mars would only be possible because of atmospheric drag.
