I'm pretty sure OP is referring to the use of reverse DNS names for unofficial apps in particular, not the naming scheme's general use. It's also not really "pushed" onto Flatpak: significant parts of the ecosystem

The Edge Flatpak discussed in this post is on the Flathub Beta channel, and I have confirmation that the only Flatpak repos on the Deck are Flathub stable and beta. I.e. there is no other Edge Flatpak. Even if there were, it would have to r

This comment went into some more details: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30740164 I mentioned this to the article author, and they edited the post to include the Reddit announcement.

It has helper macros now? I liked StatusOr but had to write my own helper macros for it at the time.

Worth noting that inconsistent jank on iOS due to the way shader compilation works is a "known issue", and that whole part of Flutter is being rewritten as part of the 2022 roadmap: https://github.com/flutter/

Because Chrome works well enough to be, at worst, "okay" for the average user. People only really change tech when the one they currently have is visibly & obviously worse, which is part of what spurred the initial migrations

Wow, I remember first hearing about EdgeDB years ago, insane to see the progress that has been made! I noticed that there's also builtin GraphQL support; can this do the majority of things the query language can, or would there be part

That's my MR and I haven't had time to complete it (particularly a compositor impl to go along with it), has nothing to do with being ignored.

Making LSM-based rules for desktop applications is relatively complex and inflexible (what if the user wants to grant access to a file for a short amount of time? Portals let you do that). Are you rebuilding policies on the fly?

IME, all running portal services add up to around 30MB RAM usage, and the two processes that need to run with each Flatpak are around 1MB each. (XDG portals aren't Flatpak-specific and can be used by host applications for some cross-de

> right now, you have to check the JSON file you linked to check how much access a flatpak program gets In general, GUI package managers w/ Flatpak support show you the permissions, as does the CLI upon an attempted install.

This often doesn't really work in practice on its own at least, since packages tend to hardcode their in installation directories. (You could try using an overlayfs, but at that point it's becoming pretty cumbersome.)

They're used for pretty different things. Dart with Flutter is used for the UIs, which Go wouldn't really do well at, and for system services that's where the con list really comes into play.

I switched from Ubuntu to Elementary OS several months ago and have never looked back. It's a lot faster and smoother, the UI is less orange, the file browser looks better, and I still get the entire Ubuntu package ecosystem.

As a side note, if you really dislike the current Linux UIs, you may like Elementary OS ( https://elementary.io/ ). It's UI took a lot of design cues from Mac OS and Chrome OS.

Hey, I'm the author of ReJit...and the one you linked is actually a different library! I haven't benchmarked my ReJit (not the one you linked) enough to know how it compares RE2, though so far it seems quite fast.

In most cases, though, the GC is light enough that it can stay enabled, and you'll rarely ever end up with raw pointers. For threading, you can use the capabilities at: http://nim-lang.org/docs/threadpool.html
