Had to log in to my rarely-used HN account to mention that I had played Biolab Disaster over and over again years back but lost track of it and forgot the name. Kinda wild to find it again by sheer luck!

Do note that Zod is a bit of an outlier in how slow it can make type checking, e.g. https://dev.to/nicklucas/typescript-runtime-validators-and-d... one of the tests hits nearly 300ms, but no other library even touches

Remember when the primary purpose of flatpak's shared runtimes was so that libraries like libwebp are not actually bundled per-application? libwebp in the runtimes has been patched with a fix for over a week.

These docs are a bit sparse and more for debugging some very specific things. If all you want is a stack trace: - You can use `flatpak install --include-sdk --include-debug THE-APP` to install the SDK and debug info for an app - Then `flatp

Worth noting that Porkbun still uses CF for the actual DNS nowadays: https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/4602/porkbun-ns-moving-t...

Chrome tends to be built with a rather slow and stringent set of optimization extras like PGO that people tend to leave off in Chromium builds.

I want to point out that Lima also works on Linux, and it's super useful there for development scenarios where a container just doesn't cut it.

This gets mentioned basically every time. The gist is that: - OpenGL is a much easier target to support, in terms of having a functional desktop. Remember, hardware-accelerated apps have been runnable on Asahi for months now, while Vulkan

Check out Taiga: https://www.taiga.io/ By the creators of Penpot, free plan is basically only missing premium support. Not sure about the login though...there seem to be some plugins for it, not sure how that works with the

This falls apart a bit when you consider that several larger banks did try to prop up First Republic for a bit, specifically because: > the FDIC is funded by banks and receives no appropriations from Congress So banks going down can cert

I feel like the hard part is that, if you dive in early on with imperative-style code, it's really easy to try and do everything else the imperative "style" too...until you can't, or you run into some weird behavior stem

Indeed, and the document portal seems to have built-in support for atomic writes by first writing to a temporary file and then renaming it ( https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal/blob/main/docu...

Worth noting that, from what I gathered, a lot of dislike towards Ventura's new UI is often less the style and more just various inconsistencies / strange behavior in their execution of it.

There should certainly be more tooling around finding these things out, but one thing worth noting is that you can `flatpak uninstall --unused` to remove old, unused runtimes (the runtime environments for apps).

I actively use both Nix and Flatpak, and my perspective is that they're tuned for different purposes: - Flatpak doesn't require apps to be rebuilt when the runtime changes, whereas Nix would require a rebuild. This is, of course,

Does the multi-user mode work on SELinux-enabled systems and, if not, is it possible to install in single-user mode? The default installer's multi-user mode doesn't work with SELinux enforcing ( https://github.com/N

systemd-coredump is honestly incredibly useful. Any time an application randomly crashes in the background, you can easily pop it in a debugger to look through the backtrace without having to re-run it. Very handy for when the crashes are

Rust came out in 2015, a year after the first release of Flatpak (back when it was still called xdg-app) in 2014. The ecosystem was also much smaller; some very necessary things for working nicely on Linux that exist now like zbus (the prom

I'm immediately interested in that this seems to be aiming at being API compatible, which means it could in theory be used as an ES replacement for self-hosting services that hard-depend on ES?

HTTP/2 Server Push is largely just a "bonus" on HTTP/2, and removing it isn't exactly going to break a ton of things. Any chance you're thinking of server-side events, which are still supported?
