Because responding to someone's statement of opinion with "prove it" isn't an effective way to further a conversation.

+1 on all the various comments recommending learning Ruby first and then Rails. The Ruby standard library is pretty big, and the language has a large number of syntax options, which means that there are often 30 different ways to do somethi

There's a bunch of reasons why Thorium cycle reactors, specifically molten salt reactors, haven't gained traction, but this is my favorite (via wikipedia): >It poses a business challenge, because reactor manufacturers customarily get th

If you're relying on weird specificity chains, then your CSS is likely an unmaintainable mess. Leave IDs for uniquely identifying an element on a page because you need to access it from a script. Treating them like "Extra Strong" class name

Exactly, as far as CSS is concerned an id is effectively equivalent to a class name except when it breaks things. Ids should be used only for scripts, and most of the time should be auto generated anyway.

you just have to contact them and they'll provide you the full source code. Absolutely false. You have to be part of their inner circle of Super Best Friends, which costs a lot of money, and they don't accept everyone.

What I find as slightly amusing is that the major web browsers will throw up all sorts of fancy, scary warning messages if you're hitting a site with an expired or invalid certificate, but they don't say a darn thing when you hit a site ove

Sort of. Twitter and Facebook still serve their home pages as HTTP and provide a login form that posts over HTTPS. The problem is that I can do a MITM attack on the unsecured home page and put my own script in there that siphons off the use

Perhaps because they can claim iTunes, because of the iTunes Store isn't an end-product so much as a platform upon which people make purchases. They can account for the revenue from the greater iTunes app through each purchase you make in t

I used to do a lot of accessibility work, so I was somewhat proficient at JAWS and IBM's Home Page Reader. JAWS, in particular, is quite powerful, but pretty daunting to learn. Compounding the clunkiness of JAWS is that many apps and sites

Instead of the government investigating the MPEG LA for anti-trust violations, how about they spend some time fixing the patent system. This whole h.264/VP8 brouhaha is a symptom, not the disease.

I don't think the GIF story is proving what you think it's proving. The problem with GIF is that everyone thought it was open and free, and then Unisys turned around and started enforcing the patents. Paying MPEGLA up front for indemnity is

Precisely. It doesn't take very many A/B tests on lead-gen forms to realize you can get much better conversion rates if you're willing to trick your users into clicking on stuff. "Learn More" isn't a better title for that button, it's a del
