I really think we need better representation in the government for protecting citizens from technology. I was talking to some people about how food delivery apps/companies are basically stealing money from restaurants by using a smalle

I think so, at least for the ad industry. Trust is central to the economy, and most people are unaware that their trust is misguided. A simple food label seems pretty straightforward but it’s anything but. Tic Taks are “sugar free”. There i

The difference is that in Canada, I’m Canadian, I can say practically anything I want about the government and nothing bad would happen to me. If I were to be crazy and slander Trudeau calling him a pedophile or something I’d be ostracized

For sure. I think the only thing he’s done which is completely serious was that texting and driving PSA from like 10 years ago. Herzog is a joker but he’s not obnoxiously obvious about it. Someone here posted a link to Ebert’s essay on Nosf

Me, too! I never imagined at the time that 25 years down the road I’d be entertaining my daughter by juggling three balls. Great book.

This is such an interesting take. I find it exceedingly difficult to argue with any of your points but I might add one which, though subjective or arguable, may change your mind or at least offer some insight into why some people love his w

I really need to read links before posting any comments. My bad. (Taiwan’s fried chicken is still really amazing.)

I guess this is why Korean and Taiwanese fried chicken is the best.

I’ve used the 12.9 pro for three years now. A (very) small business owner and part time teacher. iPad OS is becoming more and more of a joy to use. Some thoughts: 1. Dock behaviour is a little annoying since iPhone X was released. I hate th

If the nuclear family model were sustainable and prone to growth then how did we get here? Middle-class is an important economic segment of the population but it really seems like protecting the middle class was always more important than g

Defunding the police would create a power vacuum which could only be taken over by something worse. Yet the police are literally corrupt. Reform was already needed before the protests. Gradual, yes, but immediate action nonetheless. I’m not

Why do you need to disagree with BLM? The defunding the police stuff is impossible and stupid (though reform is necessary ASAP) but it’s clear to me, as a white guy, that 1. Black lives are worth protecting and 2. My life as a white guy wil

I actually don’t look at the screen when I’m typing on mine. I’m like zoning out when I use it. I write my first drafts on my MacBook in a similar way where I turn the screen off and type away.

I made another comment here about owning one of these. Yeah, there is a really compelling idea in single use tech/computers, especially for creative use. AlphaSmart really is distraction free to an extreme and instant on, writing where

I own a neo2. They are nice for first drafts or noodling with words. There really is something in the idea of dumbing down tech to get things done. I have written quite a bit on it but three things have held me back from being a power user:

I hated it the first time I tried. Every seven or ten years I’d give it a shot and decide it’s not worth trying or finishing. But it has its charms for sure, which had drawn me back to it over the years since because maybe I was wrong or no
