FYI - not trying to market any product here. Wombat (though closed-source) is free to use for small sites / hackers - if you just want to run it with a couple of phones, or play with speech synthesis/recog, it will take way less e

Enough times that I remember it. Luckily, with modern IDEs, going from fields to accessors is just a "refactoring" menu away.

No: the idea that immutable is a sensible default, and active enforcing of immutability. In Java, e.g., a linked list's cell might be immutable, but its contents are most likely mutable - so back to page one. It is definitely possible

I agree: one of the things I do appreciate in Java is that the compiler does catch those silly things and I don't really have to think about them any more. As a side effect, refactoring is very safe and you can depend on it. Clojure -

Sure: https://github.com/arohner/spectrum I think the main advantage of a type system (e.g. Java's) is that it avoids a lot of stupid mistakes; and therefore does help refactoring because most "stupid" c

Dynamically, but there are some libraries out there that are working to bring static analysis on steroids to spec-enabled code. And as spec is opt-in, you can spec just how much (or little) you find useful.

Go is more "mainstream" (I'd say it's totally mainstream by now) while Clojure is still "niche" - and being a Lisp, I doubt it will ever be non-niche.
