The worst outcome will be that urban Californians will be able to buy houses anywhere and work remotely, driving up local prices and making every where look like orange county.

The best solution to roaches I've found is to support your local ant colonies! Healthy ants will eat all your other bugs and the only drawback is having to keep your dry foods in ant-proof containers.

Good for you! Sounds like an ideal retirement. :) Dont forget VR might make it one day, and in the meantime you can always get a slight productivity satisfaction by making mods for your favorite games.

Organic Maps is great, especially for planning hikes, but I'd be careful about relying on the OSM topos for wilderness travel. I got burned pretty hard in the Alps by OSM when a trail didn't actually exist. Since then, I like to u

You can export placemarks to a file and then use your own tools to sync. There's no reason why every single app has to include the kitchen sink.

"Russia's war against Europe"... Are you saying that Russia isn't European? Because I thought solving problems with violence was a traditional European past time.

Is there a bookmark export extension? Strangely this basic browser functionality is missing from Firefox on Android.

Don't forget Airbnb. Two or three years ago they claimed they needed scanned photo IDs of all users to eradicate racism on their platform, and they were going to use cutting edge ML to do so!

I really like the functionality of your notes app, but I don't think emulating Apple UI design is the solution to subpar UI on Linux. Linux users expect basic desktop conventions like toolbars, dropdown menus, and not mobile design con

It's unethical if the content owner expects you to pay for bandwidth, computing, and local storage, and then also charge you to make a perfect digital copy that you are entirely paying the costs for.

I'm limited to choice of terminal emulator due to having a hard requirement for quake style one-keypress dropdown. Unfortunately, in pursuit of cross-platform compatibility the *critties feel like this is a desktop environment problem,

Not really, but I think the A-10 drama is an example of what can happen when an organization that doesn't share your own goals is able to take over a task critical to you. Perhaps like outsourcing your engineering offshore. It may be m

Yes! I think you're right. That's a great connection, never thought of Annihilation in that way. "Color out of Space" is the first HPL story I ever read, and still one of my favorites.

As long as the Air Farce runs CAS, instead of the army, they will continue to attempt to kill any mission that doesn't involve winning wars through the holy doctrine of Air Power (ie incinerating as many civilians as possible).

I think Annihilation is more a shameless remake of Stalker, as far as going into a "Zone" where an alien influence has changed the nature of reality.

Maybe having a game engine that is universal for mobile, console, and PC is the problem. I'm not interested in playing mobile or console games or the type of gameplay they encourage. I'd like a PC game engine for PC games.

Happy to see the end of Unity as a Linux user. The Linux versions of games were very poorly optimized, and instead of native ports we got buggy, slow, unstable games, for years. Also Unity games were mod unfriendly, meaning that those games

But the US had already destroyed multiple Japanese cities through firebombing and killed ~900k civilians. How would the threat to destroy one of the few surviving cities left have any creditability at that point?
