Norm looks very nice, thanks for posting. I haven't had a chance to look at the internals, but do you think it could be ported to C#?

Agreed on Navicat. pgAdmin doesn't quite cut it just yet. Which sometimes made me wonder if, with Postgres becoming more popular by the day, there would be a market for a management tool cheaper than Navicat.

> This title is clickbait and hyperbolic. That's precisely why I have been skipping entries pointing to Wired for a good while now, and haven't looked back ever since. Their articles are worth next to nothing.

Indeed. Just these days the lack of materialized view has been giving me troubles. It would make a certain process about 50 times faster without touching code at all, and it would take me all of three queries. Granted, the real problem is a

As a side note, I could never bring myself to like Ubuntu's default font. To my eyes it always looked nothing short of hideous, I wonder if I'm the only one.

This has nothing to do with technology, but hey: I finally decided to take saxophone lessons, I will buy a sax on Saturday morning and have my first lesson next Tuesday. I've been playing both flatpicking guitar and mandolin respective

I wasn't talking about your account, but about the other two that commented, they looked a bit fishy :) Anyway, welcome to HN. I don't comment much, but I've been here for a while. And thanks for your contribution.

Really? Praise from two accounts with 1 karma point, one of which has been created at the same time the post has been submitted? For a guide that is sent over email?

Thanks. That's for sure true, using an ORM to avoid the boring CRUD stuff is definitely a good thing. However, this shows once again that, for non-trivial systems, you still have to resort to plain SQL, which kind of locks you in to yo

From the many specific comments on here, it sounds like most people don't use an ORM. Is that the case? Not trolling or trying to start a flame, I'm genuinely curious as to how people here get stuff done.

I've never been a manager, so I might well be completely wrong about this. Anyway, I think that, even as a manager, you have the option of being involved in the design aspect of things, even though that heavily depends on the kind of

+1. I will merrily skip any submission with a sensationalistic headline, together with those that read like "Why you need to stop doing X, and do Y instead". I don't know how everybody else feels about this, but I'm sick

This is sad. I'm not much of a Rubyist, but I leant on Rake quite a bit to automate builds and whatnot.
