For such folks, telling them that invoking the full path of the executable will bypass the alias, e.g. “/bin/rm -f” will do the right thing. Discoverable? Nah. But we are talking about shell command behavior which is pretty arcane

While this is good guidance for Emacs users, another, more shell-based tactic is to use the "-i" option for "rm" which requests a confirmation before deleting the file. Aliasing "rm" to "rm -i" in eit

I used to work in EDA/Semi-IP as well. In addition to the common argument that tool changes are avoided to mitigate risk because of expensive iteration costs, another rationale is that the design and manufacturing costs of making a chi

With this thread, wondering what specs/guidelines (if any) are there for common option behavior? For example, -v, —-version -o <file>, —-output=<file> if <file> is - then use stdout -i <file>, —-input=<file

Okay, here's a typical day with org-mode for me. Start out the day entering a daily journal, listing out all the TODO items and scheduling them so I can see them in org-agenda. A subset of those TODOs are meetings, of which I'll u

Would not frame it as “destiny” or “dark”, but using org-mode has been spectacularly transforming and guiding for how I plan/design software today. Definitely worth trying out https://orgmode.org/features.html

I too thought the key travel was fine with my AlphaSmart 3000, but found them too loud when typing in a conference room. That 500 (no typo) hour battery life with 3 AA batteries though. Brilliant device.

Oh wow, I guess I’ll add to this thread which is so tied to the fact that we don’t have resolution independent graphics. I wrote an essay about resolution independent graphics back in 2012 here https://github.com/kickingvega
