I'm glad an excellent communicator with a solid reputation like you is going to bat on this issue. If you find yourself in doubt, just think "what would fakegrimlock do?"

I would have called this too ridiculous to pose an actual danger before the PATRIOT Act. It points to a deeper problem, though: Lawmakers intent on passing something that a large portion of the public finds objectionable can often achieve t

I, for one, am tired of playing Reality in fixed first-person view. I just need the LED-embedded contact lenses to get to a high enough resolution for over-the-shoulder.

He's pre-generational, along with people like Ramon Llull and Hero of Alexandria (who, however, did not have such a heroically unusual distribution of letters in his last name).

Marshray started getting dead comments for some reason 4 days ago, but his reply to my top comment is extremely relevant: > I'm not tpatcek, but yes there's a reason why PBKDF2 doesn't do it that way. Because SHA1(SHA1(SHA1(SHA1(...))))

Be careful. Tptacek may show up soon to explain in more detail why this is a dangerous direction to go, but the fact that PBKDF2 is a reasonably well-studied key stretching algorithm is the only reason I'd be comfortable iterating SHA1. To

Tansey wrote a good, solid reply, but I dislike worshipping at the altar of mysteriousness. When a human or better GAI finally gets built, it won't be entirely hand-coded (although the seed for it might be). But the better we understand h
