Slightly offtopic: the regime in Spain was taken into discussion during the Potsdam conference with the outcome of not intervening after II WW, being the main expressed motive that Spain was neutral on the war (which is true but biased, sin

Most european countries can't keep up with the currency, that's the real issue. Of course the tax payers are highly entertained with the bigoted argument of which country deserves what. It's too easy to go that route and infl

Your game dev blog is worth alone a good read. Specially the 5 part series on map generation. Most sources online are pretty obscure, being either just a brief on what algorithms steps involve or a crude demo attached on a forum. If anyone

I too have been following the development of Cogmind since having a post of mine about dungeon generation using BSP trees being linked on your dev blog. The game looks impressive. Congrats on the release!

When adding support for small new features or fixing bugs on large codebases the answer is: you don't [1]. You do not need to familiarize yourself with the full codebase at the start. It's too time-consuming and mostly not worth t

I got to know the Matrix project on the last FOSDEM and it definitely seemed a step on the right direction. I guess then it's all a matter of waiting for it to happen.

That's why we should be worried. The ease of using Telegram over any other service is clear and that's why most companies and public institutions are moving their old messaging services to Telegram. Without wanting to say that Tel

The only disadvantages I can see on a federated service are security and the cost of running it. Compared to the benefit of not restricting one-self to a platform, I would say federated is better.

That is true. What surprises me is how lazy and clueless mobile network operators seem to be despite the power they still hold. They have all the power they need to develop or implement modern messaging protocols. Granted they can't ch

OT: Awesome, great, APIs are good. Know what's better? Open specifications and federated services. It's called XMPP and if it's not enough, then something better should be developed. Is this the replacement of SMS? Not sure w

It's clear Google has undertaken a massive task on defining a cohesive image and set of guidelines for the design of their products. In that sense it's probably better to have a flawed plan than no plan at all. However I would not

I hadn't looked much into Swift either, thought it was meant to be a declarative layer around Obj-C, my bad. I would say though that QML + javascript fills a similar purpose as Swift.

QML is akin to swift. Let's say, QML is to Qt as Swift is to Obj-C + native GUI libraries. The purpose and syntax of QML and Swift are similar, too. PS: Qt is not only a GUI framework. It's a cross platform C++ framework.

Funnily enough, I am just on the opposite side. I've a free API that allows people to build clients for mobile apps (some are free, some are one time fee, etc) and the costs of running this free API are starting to worry me.

The possibility of doing that is already there on Android. Try calling a number that has a public profile (like a restaurant), and you'll see how their avatar appears as a contact. That particular request is perfectly mineable.

Appeal to developers, that's all. If your brand is not used by developers, nobody is going to start writing apps for your platform just out of the hobby. Plus, it takes time. Just look at iOS (2007) and Android (2008). You can't h

I am starting to see the light on all this tooling madness. It does not matter: languages and their ecosystems are powerful enough for any project to build their own tools. Projects are fond of their tools, so they give them fancy names and
