Eh, Milwaukee has fairly lax parking requirements (including no minimums for most downtown developments) but most developments have more than legal required. Developers are pretty open about the reason (it's not uncommon for neighbors

That also means they test from a different perspective than the dev does. If I get a requirement my build is based on my understanding of the requirement, and so is my testing. A separate QA person coming at it from the customer's pers

Oh what I'd do for that. Even just in a decent biking distance would be amazing. Ours are all in the distant suburbs. What city has one downtown?

This is the biggest reason I love Costco. If you need something they're selling you'll only have a couple options, all will be at least decent, and it's usually obvious which one's for you. E.g. I needed a shredder. Ther

They’re not building new office space. They’re converting an office building into… an office building. At worst this is neutral for the glut. And it’s actually a bit better than that, because IMU the glut is in lower quality buildings while

That seems reductive. Ideally it’d be a little bit bigger and I’m not sure what the range is but I could totally see myself using one of those. Even just being able to pickup appliances and furniture + run stuff to the dump would be enough

Of course base model Kias are so low tech they take about 90 seconds to steal, so there's tradeoffs :)

I agree, I'm just pointing out that you're talking about road trips. For my driving, though I don't have an EV, almost every day would be cognitively simpler than my current situation. I just don't drive more than 200 mi

I do think that "There is a higher cognitive load than just driving around in an ICE and pulling into any of the 15 nearby gas station "within range" for 5 minutes when your gas light goes on." is more about familiarity

Strictly speaking the problem isn’t that it’s random, the problem is that it’s a lie. The fact it’s random proves that the number isn’t real. The RNG is used to give some variance to the number without accidentally making a pattern (which h

Honestly given the circumstances (emergency short term contract to get them back up) the 10/7 schedule doesn’t bother me that much. It’s also not clear to me that they’re only looking for one person. The pay though… I don’t know what S

Going back to the beginning what started this is a debate about whether trees cool cities. I don’t think anyone (certainly not me) has intended to argue that trees can replace AC, just that they make the city around them (including indoors

I guess we disagree on what trees do well. I’m in the Midwest with warm semi humid summers. Trees keep the area around them massively cooler, not by evaporation but by shading. Maybe it’s a disagreement of terms? I guess they aren’t technic

Trees are so much more than swamp coolers. Leaves block the Sun relatively high off the ground, meaning people are in the shade during the hottest part of the day and feeling as much radiation off buildings and streets in the evening. Beyon

Salinity issues aside, in my understanding locks generally don’t pump water at all: they work entirely on gravity. In effect this means that a burst of water flows downstream every time the lock is cycled.

How far away from the shore would you need to go? I imagine it would be fairly easy to pipe the brine a few miles off shore to deeper waters. I have no idea how much of an impact that would have though.

Of course, if you raise the cost of energy that much heating will have more of an impact then A/C. I still think the northern US cities will be more resilient (and I do live in one) but heating isn’t cheap
