Just curious, how can it be non-obvious how to stop the engine? Why couldn't the drivers simply turn back the key? Is there some safety feature I'm not aware of? In my car there's nothing preventing you from completely removing the key wh

Delay is the amount of time (in minutes) between when you hit submit and when the comment is posted, its for people (like me) who post something than immediately decide to edit it. From http://ycombinator.com/newsnews.html : ...There's

I completely agree. I've tried noprocrast but I it's too easy to shut off or work around. I do think that its a real addiction. To be fair though I am a bit of a news junkie and a horrible procrastinator in general so even without HN I'm

I think you're right which is funny because many people (way more than half as this article noted) would say they are above average and say that only half of drivers can be above average Only 50% of students can be above average (median)

I'm not sure that applies in this case. I agree that newspapers and magazines are able to charge more for ads to paid subscribers than for non-paid readers but the logic behind that is that someone who pays for the issue is more likely to

Why do you have an issue with saying banned? It's not like they were forgotton, or passed over due to space constraints, they were specifically not allowed to attend even after thy requested a pass because of the iPhone leak. That sounds l

The lakefront on the south side is much further east than in the north side. Once you get into those southern shore areas it does get significantly poorer. I'm not sure of it still would fit in win his point because of the layou but it's

I don't know about DC and LA(though I wonder if both have developed recently enough that the effect would be negated) but in Chicago the souh side is the furthest east (due to lake michigan) and the suburbs to the east of the city aren't ex

To answer the author's closing question (why hasn't anyone lowered the price and advertise it). It's likely because so far there's been room for everyone and noone wants to start a price war on what I assume is a cash cow.

'Net Neutrality' doesn't exist yet. A least not officially. However if/when (probably when) it does pass it would probably prevent ATT from charging skype more to route phone calls over thier network.

Yes, that's why the publishers do it but they get away with it because many people see a hardback book as being more valuable than a paperback one despite the fact that they both cost about the same to make. Sure the only people who regular

Good point but even if the 70y.o. had a snakebite that would cost $100k to cure it's still a debate. My point wasn't that you shouldn't go into debt to cure a snakebite. I was just trying to show that your point was over-simplified and is

Oh yes we still have toll roads and the never ending construction projects. Most of them are managed by the government but the skyway (I-90 from the city into Indiana) has been privatized. I couldn't tell you what it's like though as I al

That leads into a whole other debate. Death vs. Debt is straightforward when you're 30 or 40 and looking at $100k to cure a snakebite. It's an entirely different issue when you're 70 and looking at a $2m cancer treatment, the only problem

No because the free phones would still be in use, but the person using it may not have gotten a Android/RIM phone if not for the deal. Example: A father has a smartphone from work. His wife likes using it to check her e-mail, use apps, etc

This makes me wonder how many customers had overpaid without noticing the tax problem. Actually it also makes me wonder how many times I have overpaid for something because I didn't check the register's math.

Your first point is a good one, and looking back was presumably the basis for pg's disagreement. And as long as there is no serious problem with posts by brand new accounts that alone is likely a good enough reason to say I'm wrong. Your s

How often do people actually read their receipt? It's good that they do have the charge listed but I still feel like most people are not aware how much of their bill went to the VAT whereas in general around here you can't possibly miss it.

As annoying as it can be I actually think its a good thing that the amount you're paying in taxes is listed separately because then you are forced to see what you're paying in taxes. I live outside Chicago and in some areas around me the sa
