Sorry, but am I the only one who dislikes the picture they used for the post. The flag of the pirate party has nothing to do with iPhone software piracy websites ...

hmm ... I still have full access to the APN settings ( Unlocked iPhone 4s from the US, German carrier). Is this just a problem in the US? I guess it depends on the carrier doesn't it?

thanks great. Any info if/when there is also a meetup in December/January? Would love to finally drop by. Yet, so far, I'm always traveling (first Kyushu, now Germany on the 30th ... :S )

I don't think it's Mac vs. PC, as we are talking about eco-systems now. Also their statistic is majorly bogus, they use "units shipped" not sold. Web-traffic and profits show a "slightly" different picture. Edit: got rid off an unnecessary

MacVim has good code-completing and most of the advanced features out of the box, if you use YADR or similar ( https://github.com/skwp/dotfiles ). I like to have the same environment regardless which language I'm using ( objective-c, pyt

I agree ... still I have the problem that the Android development chain on my Mac breaks from time to time. Disclaimer: I'm developing for iOS and I'm quite new to Android (playing with some code from time to time). Yet, debugging with a g

Yes, then what about the source code for google maps, gmail and google play? Are they open source? Do you get them doing your git checkout?

Here the problem ... Google partners with handset manufacturers and markets Android as open / open-source. For me the core functionalities of a smart phone are to call smb., mail, maps and installing 3rd party apps. All four are NOT open-so

For me "open-source" stands for community driven with open repository. It's a way to develop (not a source dump after a while of closed source development). Also I argue that Android as a smart phone OS is NOT open-source, as you desperatel

Yes, I was pointing at the community aspect of open-source. Just to get some source dumps after a while does not mean "open-source" to me. Seems people at Hacker News see this differently. Yet, I agree with your comments, in general. Why no

Depends on what you call Android... If you talk about the "Android open-source software stack" ..yes that's "open" (I would still not see it as open source as for me it's the community that matters). If you talk about the Android smart pho

For me open source means something else. Maemo was a real open source platform. Android is not: 1. You can download part of the source (part is closed). 2. The source you can download and compile does not run on any phone (without some bin

Unfortunately, Android is not really open source :( Edit: If you think this statement is not true, please look at Debian or any other REAL open source project compare it to Android. Android uses Open-Source as a marketing term, not in it's

sorry, maybe I was not clear. Some devices running Android you have to "jailbreak" (this depends on the carrier/ manufacturer). I bought the google nexus galaxy exactly, because I just need to unlock the boot loader and can get root on it.

Unfortunately, your phone with Android is not a computing platform, because you cannot run everything you want on it without jailbreak. I needed to root my phone (Google Nexus Galaxy, unlocked) and void warranty to install jellybean :( Goog

Sorry, but your comparisons are a bit off. Apple might be inspired by Sony, yet innovated on top (like any good innovator does). What Samsung did are cheap copies (as well as HP and Asus for their ultrabooks). This has nothing to do with in
