Nice to see this posted here. I feel obliged to say that the 2nd edition (which is now finally completed) has a number of Kickstarter backers waiting for their treeware, and I'm sorry for the delay in getting that to them. It's

I just want to say that this was a kind, detailed, and thoughtful response -- beneficial to the OP, no doubt, but also probably to others. It was nice to be reminded that sometimes the Internet doesn't suck. Thanks for taking the time

There might be a selective enforcement issue here? If it turns out that lots of the IP address space is doled out based on semi-fraudulent claims like this (assuming that Guilmette's claim is correct that DDos-Guard doesn't really

I'd like to point out https://Permanent.org/ , ahem. It made the front page here a while back (not posted by me), and it's relevant here: you pay a one-time payment for permanent storage -- that's right, your

Use Emacs. (Really, use any fully extensible editor and take the time to learn it well. I'm told Vim fits the bill too; my personal experience just happens to be with Emacs.)

(Okay, well, I guess this was a particularly bad time to recommend a specifically in-person help session :-). Live video would work too, as long as the resolution is high enough for them to see what you're doing.)

Single best thing you can do: Find an expert Emacs user who's willing to help, and have them watch you in person , even for just a short time, as you use Emacs to do things. Lather, rinse, repeat. Make sure they show you how to use

No, it's not. If you're selling broccoli but you call it "peaches", taking a poll will not change peaches to broccoli. Open Source has a very precise, clear, and widely-agreed-on definition. That definition is publishe

It's no more a "semantic quibble" than any other inaccurate use of a term is a semantic quibble. People are counting on headlines meaning what they say they mean, and this one doesn't. If the headline mistakenly said &q
