Same thing for enterprise solutions. How does Redshift stack up against Snowflake? What about choosing a dashboard tool within the various ones that exist today? Etc.

I am a big fun of learning best practices but also of iterative “projects”. You know why most business projects fail? Because they are too big and to reduce risks the tendency is to follow _only_ best practices. This doesn’t work because ea

Any tools to do this with native applications too not just browsers? We have been flooded by this RPA companies the past 2 years and I'd love a way to do this with Python. It is actually a potentially very profitable market since the i

I think we need some kind of long form essay/how-to for this problem. It's a serious issue and I see millions being wasted this way. Point in case, we continue to push dashboarding tools in the analytics industry (Y) while what we

Interesting topic. Any of you doing everything right - work, sports, cooking, some reading, etc - but procrastinating social life? I feel like that's what I do. I always have excuses not to go out to meet new people or meet the people

If you put it like that it sounds like the alternative is moral absolutism. I take issue with absolutes because they do not promote any type of meaningful discussion. You are basically going up to a country and telling them you are right, w

I don’t want to justify zoom but I do want to point out that we shouldn’t be ok with judging a country to the point of saying they have “bad laws”. Maybe it’s because I am Italian and have seen what happens when discussions go head to head

HashiCorp is doing fine with config files in hcl or json. What’s your specific complain here? To me it seems your mini languages would anyway compile into something very similar to those yaml files. It’s all graph nodes in the end. But I do

This is solid. From my perspective this dichotomy me/others is a false one. I am sure MBAs have their value though sometimes they get so political it's hard to separate the b/s from what they actually do. I think self assessm

Altair and Vega offer a great declarative way to build interactive charts with a grammar of graphics. As with other options in this area like Tableau they are not as good with tabular reports (tables). I think they are still greatly worth i

I always felt neither Airflow nor Superset solved any of the foundational problems with data analytics today. If we take Airflow, it is relatively easy to schedule runs of scripts using cron (or more fancy Nomad jobs with a period stanza).

Most ETL processes should be declarative and configured in text files like you configure a CloudFormation or Terraform. Once you have that, the execution piece is relatively straightforward. I think a lot of issues and costs with ETL come f

We are 30+ years and Windows Task Scheduler is still broken. Compare that to simple .txt files to schedule anything you need in Linux. Windows took the UI path for users and that's OK, but most of Power users are still much better off

I am working on a similar use case. I was going to go the Nomad route for this. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not but I wonder if using an orchestrator and then saving state in separate volumes will do the trick.

Not sure yet I like how aws does this but I started to think that serverless and microservices are about state after all. It is about ephemeral apps that hold only the bare minutes state. For instance you don’t need user management as ident

I mean question is when do you need a spa. Take my beloved online pivot table. The web UI state is very similar to the server state. For instance, if the user adds a dimension to the pivot we need to instantly feed that back to the server.

Would this work with an html table element? I am building online pivot tables and I like the idea of building the entire table on the server and swapping it with a div on user click.
