Agreed tons of potential here, however we may need to get our own geo data for this: Google was very clear during the API quota approval process that 3d tiles cannot be used for ML training or generation of derivative assets like Gaussian s

Yes, you can just remix and remove the orbit controls in lines 43 and 44 https://glitch.com/edit/#!/maps-and-splats?path=index.html%3... and then add `look-controls` `wasd-controls` to the camera entity. https:&#

Next we are combining this work with an AR collection app for on-site capture and testing out workflows for "shared global anchors" (aka Spatial anchors or Cloud anchors) a recurring topic in the w3c immersive web working group:

Thanks I just shrunk it a bunch more. It's a tech demo so apologies for the basic UI. It's also open source so anyone can remix it and play with the UI too

This is amazing and all but at what point do we reach the point of there is no more “real” data to infer from low resolution? In other words there are all sorts of information theory research on the amount of unique entropy on a given mediu

This reads like an Epic Games PR piece. Good for them but there’s nothing new here for close followers of 3d tech.

I encourage you to read the sources but the TLDR as I understand it that seaworthiness requirements vary significantly by the region to which the vessel is registered. The port doesn’t have the same regulatory power, nor the resources, as a

Throwing the operating crew under the bus is a classic technique in maritime to absolve the true responsibility -- the poor design of the system, especially "flags of convenience" and insufficient oversight in other jurisdictions.

If you could leave SF in the evening and have a comfortable bed to have a solid night sleep and arrive in LA in the morning, it would totally be worth more than a flight. As someone who did a lot of SF / LA travel for sales and marketi

Not quite the same thing, but over the weekend I hacked google maps 3d tiles (mesh) together with a gaussian splat and the effect is pretty similar and effective: Example 1 with code linked: https://twitter.com/kfarr/st

Yes this has tons of potential. It's analogous but different to patented techniques used by Unreal engine. Performance is not the focus in most research at the moment. There isn't even alignment on unified format with compression

I see many comments talking about how shocking or rare this appears to be. In reality the maritime industry is extremely dangerous and accident prone as a result of the design of the system. Excellent book on the topic with an entire chapte
