For me personally I find git to be relatively painless (after years of svn and P4). But working with people in less technical roles (PM/UX) who for whatever reason need to touch git occasion, I’m exposed to how inaccessible it is for t

Fully agree on Jira. Disliked it enough to start a company to compete with it [0]. Also agree on AWS. Their UI is so terrible and confusing that it makes writing CloudFormation yaml files feel alright in comparison. Been using GCP lately an

As an engineering manager, I love having a mix of people who just always need to go deep on whatever they’re working on and others who are just obsessed with shipping and getting stuff out. Particularly great when you pair them off and they

To me what the author is describing as 'healthy self-doubt' doesn't sound like self-doubt to me at, but rather admitting one doesn't know everything, one needs to surround oneself with competent people, etc. If you feel

Regarding pricing, we'll be rolling that out soon (I believe next week). Will be a free tier for up to 6 users or so and then after that something around $10/user/month.

At one point we did have syncing to GitHub issues (e.g. an issue created in Kitemaker was automatically created in GitHub and vice versa, labels and comments were kept in sync, etc.). However, we ended up dropping this feature because it wa

Shipping is important. It's a nice feeling to get it out there. But to imagine that if you'd just shipped it then everyone would be using your app instead of someone else's is nonsense. You're in full control of shipping

It’s years since I’ve read it to be honest. I remember finding the parts on how to conduct one-on-ones useful at the time. I don’t recall feeling the author was unsure of himself (and he’s a pretty successful tech leader btw, currently VP E

I've said this before on similar posts, but I think most clipboard "snooping" is not nefarious, it's boneheaded. Developers get a requirement like "if the user has a URL in their clip board, give them an option to s

Amazing list! > 9) Judge people based on objective results not on "optics". Ass-in-seat time is a lazy and pointless measurement in most cases. I'd only point out that as a manager one also needs to be aware of the optics

I think the most reliable thing to see what quirks are load bearing is tests, particularly regression tests. You change something, you break expected behavior, you fix it and you write a test. Now the next person may wonder if some quirk is

CSS sticky would make the effect on that site much smoother IMO as it would just hit the top of the viewport and stick, which is what I tend to see sites like this doing.

Could you explain the situations in which this is advantageous over CSS sticky? Saying it's "very good from UX point of view" is hard to accept at face value - people want to understand the problem it's solving.

One of the nightmares I've experienced time and time again in large mature codebases is incomplete abstractions. Some developer gets a great idea of how to abstract something away, defines the plumbing needed for said abstraction, and
