The first sign that something was amiss for me was the word GNOME in a paragraph which was talking about a SERVER. I think the quality of any kind of work a person who runs *NIX servers with desktop environments is minimal and I tend to tag

Yes, he is, he's the trojan horse MS sent inside Nokia so they could "control" a large phone manufacturer.

Here are a few issues with it: event 500 / 501 with aero at 1920x1080 screen resolution - bad design & inefficient use of GPU functions and hardware for desktop composition & aero While this may be normal behaviour for pre-DX10.1/11

Take one app which wants to do heavy IO and it will stall the OS more often than not. Take a machine which boots the OS and check how much stuff gets on the screen and if you can interact with it while the HDD led is at full brightness or b

Here's why Windows feels a lot slower in a lot of areas when compared to Linux, Mac OS X and other OSes: the process scheduler has a bit of a high latency, the IO system is pretty bad and the entire hardware blocks a whole lot more than it

Here are the bad news: it's also owned by another twilio employee and the single person behind it doesn't listen to the community, nor cares about it.

Have you considered releasing the code as open source and turning the current notifo service into a paid service or something like that? I'd happily contribute to the source. I've given both notifo and notify.io a shot, but they both lacked

You would've known I don't like this scripted thingy either if you had read my other comment. Also, personal work, confidential data and other stuff should never go anywhere near something like dropbox, aerofs and anything like this.

Sure, use yet another proprietary thing to share your files. What could possibly go wrong?

It's not even close to dropbox. It's supposed to have more features like detecting when a file was also changed locally and remote and create a new file from the remote file. It seems very fragile and I wouldn't trust it to backup my data s

This looks very good. How can packages be added? How can it be reconfigured? How is one supposed to add management tools (think libvirt, openstack) to it? I took it for a spin and noticed it had kvm, a whole lot of regular Illumos binaries

Ok, maybe I didn't use the right words or something: There was an article from someone in the NoSQL camp which said that SQL is bad. I DO and DID understand that the querying language isn't restricted to relational databases. What I was say

I know it's wrong, you'll have to kill me to make me stop using SQL. I wish I still had the article from 2009 - 2010 which said that SQL is too difficult and other things like that. Anyway, this is what I was talking about when I originally

Quite the opposite, I clearly recall some people from the NoSQL camp (read non-relational data stores, non SQL enabled) saying that SQL itself is bad and something else is needed. I should have mentioned this before the zealots kicked in.

Ohh, the irony: NoSql - because SQL is bad and we thought of fixing it! Fast forward some years into the future, current times - NoSql gets its, you guessed it, SQL back. Can someone help me stop laughing at this, please? Nevermind, it look

It's not fun developing like this either, I don't want to see how debugging is supposed to be done for this.

I don't think I can properly say how cheap this looks to me. HTML mixed with code in the same file? A new language? A new database? What makes an app written in opa better than a PHP codebase where HTML is mixed with PHP all over? This opa

The person who wrote that article doesn't seem to have such great technical skills. He came off as the classic blogger who feels he has to share his opinion about everything without having taken the time to actually write some PHP code, to

It's also common sense to pick the right plugins for the job. There are a lot of modules which have been deprecated or which are no longer maintained, sure. However, this doesn't mean that Drupal is in any way bad.

Thank you for the advice. I am aware that the two aren't the same thing. I just want to use them for various tasks (C for unix system programming and C++ for cross platform apps).
