I adore Groovy the language but am compelled to note its horribly slow bootup time. On a commodity laptop it's usually a couple of seconds - acceptable for some things, but hard to justify for one-liners.

That sounds like... Puzzle time! I had to cheat, sort of, by looking at the man page: > Local file names can be made explicit using absolute or relative pathnames to avoid scp treating file names containing ':' as host specifie

Am I reading this incorrectly or did literally all the female candidates finish the test in private while none of them finished in public? (disclaimer: Am male but still cannot talk and hack at the same time)

Mostly tangential: I find it amusing that I got served 3 different ads for Google Fiber on that reuters page (2 of them were the same ad). Of course this is because I looked at Google Fiber a week ago to see if it was in my neighborhood yet

What, has everyone forgotten the legendary babynamewizard.com? It was one of the few java applets that succeeded. Seems to be still kicking, probably rewritten in javascript. https://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager#prefix=&am

I was actually expecting this was about Amazon collecting data on the neighbors of Prime customers by forming some composite view of not-Prime vs. Prime traffic. My knee seems to be trained to jerk in a persistent direction...

Obviously the more people using a language, the more 3rd party libraries/frameworks proliferate, of course, and Java is very popular. But: Technologies are separate from their cultures. You might think the tech enforces its own cultu

Not OP, but go look at the consul documentation. In fact, just look at "Configuration" page alone: https://www.consul.io/docs/agent/options - it goes FOREVER. Maybe you don't need most of that, but

Just to contradict the complaining about groovy scripts: I reduced something like 100 jobs to 2 using groovy in jenkins, and it has been a godsend. I'm not having any problems with it. Mind you, the Groovy stuff was implemented as an a

Late reply: This scenario is reasonable and I usually handle it by logging the thread ID in multi-threaded systems, which amounts to a "free" global variable.

Monad tutorials are hard to understand because nobody actually wants to tell you what a monad is, because that would defeat elitist thinking. A monad is just a very concise definition of a List. In java terms it's as if you're def
