Thanks for taking the time to share this story. I'm not deaf, but I can very much relate to some of what you've said. Especially the loneliness part. I'm an English speaker who's spent the last year in France. I'm currently working in a F

If he claims that he's now fluent in French then he needs to back this up with a posting of his voice (or a youtube clip) of him speaking in it. Let that be the judge of how fluent he is.

Can someone please explain to me the advantage of NOT having a single window display in an application such as this? I'm being serious here by the way ... I remember when I tried GIMP many years ago. I had many little windows scattered ac

I agree with you, but what irks me more is the disingenuously of it all: "We'll take care of the rest". So basically I sign up a friend to receive petty "gifts" that some third-party chooses on my behalf with absolutely no thought given on

Worse, as stated in the article, is that the message is in English, which many people won't even be able to read.

The overuse of exclamation marks makes me cringe when I read this article. Nonetheless, he's got some solid points. I wish he gave more concrete examples rather than just the one on getting up early.

I just downloaded this book for free because I was suspicious of the contents and thought it'd be another airy book filled with old quotes and obvious but encouraging sentences. Now that I've read the first 3 pages I want to pay for it. Is

Very well said, and I agree to a certain extent. We'll have to see what actual users have to say about this. My guess is that the portability of the front camera on the phone means that you can not only show yourself, but also point to thi

This is extremely awesome. For those who feel hesitant about this (ie - not getting enough taste), I would recommend trying this for, say, breakfast and gradually increasing the frequency.

I just read the article, and the one main point s/he makes that struck me is that in Japan, as opposed to Katrina, the citizens KNOW that they'll be looked after. Comparing the situation to here in Australia where we had floods and hurrican

I have different goals/passions that don't seem to relate: programming, fitness, speaking different languages. Often, my greatest anxiety episodes arise from thinking of how I can balance these, and have a social life and do the laundry at

Exactly what I was thinking. It's also striking that while France is virtually empty (except for Paris), its neighbouring northern and eastern countries are a stark contrast.

You've posted perhaps one of the better definitions of this guy's attitude, and I have to agree. However, while he's criticising UI design flaws, he doesn't actually provide any real ideas/examples on how they should fix this. This might j
