I wonder how this would this work for windows that can't be maximized, such as dialogue boxes. Does anyone have any experience using tiling managers here?

I found this article rather surprising since I come from a primarily Java background. Do any other languages besides C++ allow this definition of pass-by-reference? The reason I ask is that it seems silly for me to change the way I talk ju

i wonder if people would ever get ANY work done. such plush surroundings would only make my eyes wonder. and even if people WERE dedicated enough to get work done, wouldn't it imply that they'd just ignore all this fancy stuff?

2 things: 1 - didn't work for me when (using firefox 3.5.5) 2 - I have to say that the screenshots look impressive with left-hand column, but in reality the interface will also have a right-hand column for advertisements, which will clutter

I like the way they've arranged all the vocab, pronounciation, grammar links together for each language in a nice organised fashion. I'm a little skeptic though of their classification of difficulty. I understand that they're categorising

Very entertaining read . Almost seems made up, until I realised that I too have met people like this.

Visit a CSS showcase site such as cssremix.com and get in contact with some of the designers from there.

On the one hand I'm surprised people are still playing this game. Then again, given how long Starcraft II has been taking to come out, I guess these guys have no choice but to enjoy what they have. (PS - I'm not flaming them. I was an SC

Indeed. I personally have never used "swum", and I'd struggle to come up with an example where "swam" won't fit in just as perfectly.

What fascinated about this article is that there's a whole other world out there of geeks/programmers/hackers beyond our English speaking world doing their own things and sharing their own ideas.

Is there an aging mechanism whereby the application can automatically ignore posts that are n-days old, or with less than n-number of "like" hits? Reason I ask is that I've just started using greeder. I tend to also get ovsessive-compulsiv

I take his idea of "fluency" with a grain of salt because he hasn't actually posted any videos of him speaking the language. Fluency is about "nativeness" (if I can create my own word here). It's being able to think in the language (rather

Call me a pessimist, but when I see such a huge amount of money being donated - I can't help but wonder how it's meant to trickle down to the people, how it's made sure the people know how to manage it well, etc. I guess details like this a

What's missing here - and which you can't really test with mice - is the emotional side of things. Exercising because you've been placed on a treadmill, as was the case with the mice, is akin to people exercising because they "have to", or

Sad but true... I actually fought with the linux UI for ages to make it look visually appealing. Invariably I always ended up using MS Window fonts, and Mac-style UI. If you look closely at the screenshot you'll notice that it'll only take

The main purpose of GIMPShop was to adjust the GIMP hotkeys to work like Photoshop's. That's what it was when I used it years ago. It's gotten a long way since, and yes it does allow you to work in a single window (MDI) mode - but only in

You're confusing two different things here. Re-writing a codebase to spawn a totally seperate application is not the same as when you're doing it to re-release an enhanced version of the same application (with a bumped up version number).

Reminds me of the "IE Tab" plugin for firefox, which allows you to render your current tab in ie-format. It's quite useful when you're designing websites, and also useful when your organisation has legacy apps that only display properly in

It's interesting to note how many people here are commenting on the inefficiency of writing in the cursive style. This got me thinking about the role of handwriting today. I imagine that our English script originated (probably from Latin)
