Funny you mention adblocker. You'd think it's the biggest concern for publishers, but they're not scared of what they don't know. News publishers don't exactly have nimble cutting edge engineering departments dedica

As somebody who has some insight into the inner thoughts of the revenue departments of newspapers, the suits running newspapers would rather die than accept Spotify for newspaper. We were offering something like $0.20 per article. We ran a

If we get to throw in name suggestions, I'd suggest `pony-ranch`. Stays with the equine theme and one less letter too!

Does that means the stable version of pony-stable is called pony-stable-stable (suffix)? stable-pony-stable (prefix)? What happens when it's mixed with the stable release of pony? pony-stable+pony-stable-stable/stable-pony+stable-

There's a not-public system? The one I'm aware of is very much public: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Community_Colleges_...

Answer should be fairly obvious: old media. The parent companies to CNBC (Comcast) and WSJ (Fox) don't really get along with Google and Facebook and won't give up their advertising revenue without a fight. After all, they had seve

Maybe that's true for tech in the Bay. But everywhere else, for any other field, the very first filter applied to a stack of resumes is degree/school. Your technical/interpersonal skills are definitely more important, but odd

Didn't realize how close the UCs were to being essentially private universities these days. No wonder they're targeting higher percentages of out of state enrollments.

There's a reason why California has the CC/CSU/UC system split up. Each system and tackle different missions within public education. The CC system works for adults with many weekend/night offerings and a huge emphasis o

This always gets posted every few months, and the PHP people always come around and say, wait, PHP7 is different now. I wonder how it differs on the predictable, consistent, concise, reliable, debuggable rating scale now. Similarly, I wonde

Either? Former citizens presumably get an increase in quality of life in a lower cost of living area, and California has a richer (newly imported) middle class. The ones that have it hard are the ones who can't afford to stay and can&#

So, the thing that always bothers me about how Los Angeles is reported on is the lack of normalization for population. LA is really big with a lot of people. It will naturally have higher population of homelessness. 57k/10.2m is ~0.56%

I think this is the point that's often overlooked. Everything in safe rust is supposed to be both memory safe and thread safe. The textbook implementation of linked lists and trees are not thread safe, and easily not memory safe.

Can confirm that Los Angeles has wonderful supply of engineers and low demand for them. I would rather fight it out here and try my luck than move to Austin/Denver/Detroit though.

Bay Area to LA but in general too; many grads leave the LA area, so it's not a hard sell to get them to come back after they pick up some experience. Bay Area just happens to be the biggest consumer of fresh graduates.

Hiring juniors in LA has been delightful; so many strong candidates, no real competing offers. That being said, it's also pretty easy to poach burnt out, fed up experienced juniors from the Bay Area.

Isn't willingness to fail a way of learning faster? Willingness to wait was also justified in terms of learning. All the arguments seem to boil down to learn faster, adapt faster. Evolution's a story as old as time.

When I say cost neutral, I mean from a productivity standpoint. The 2x junior+senior accomplish the same amount of work as the senior would by themself. It takes about a year for a junior+senior combo to be more productive than a senior alo
